    hi everyone!
have a question for yous.my father in law had a bad fall during a bike race 2 weeks ago and broke several ribs and his collerbone, after a week in naas hospital they told him that they can not fix it or operate on it to repair the brake:mad: .now,i find that very unusual due to the fact that i had my collerbone broken in half aswell and i was operated on no problem!
i just wondered if there is someone who could help me or us to see if its fixeble or not.maybe public hospital wont do it or is there someone that knows a private clinic that would do it? help be very appriciated.he's only 48 wich is not old at all so please any help be great.
    cheers!

They can't or they won't? The standard procedure with a collarbone break is to not fix it unless it's seriously out of place, or it doesn't start to mend after a long time.

same here. was 14 and just wore a sling for 5 weeks or something...remember having to sit up straight a lot and having a lot of pain...not fun

    ah killer

    did it recently.

I'd certainly advise to get a good sling. They gave me a rubbish bandage, but got a proper wrap around one that was much more comfortable

Sleeping won't be fun when he rolls over on it!

Unless its a real bad break they won't operate. All you can do it rest it and wear shirts all the time

Check if an actual orthopaedic surgeon checked him out (not just a doc from A&E) I am assuming this happened if he was in for a week, but check anyway. If the surgeon didn't think a fix was necessary, then it probably isn't, but you always have the option of getting a second opinion. I'm not entirely sure how you go about that, possibly you may need to get a referral form your GP.

Thanks for your reply to me but I'm not sure which doc it was but he doesn't know him self why they won't operate on it he reckons .because of the ribs and according to him he checked it out online and apparently it's not done in Ireland no more he wears a sling alright but they told him he won't be able to lift his arm any higher then shoulder height.i just thing it's very odd.
