I was very tempted to buy one myself but then found this-

To cut a long story short, some of the Vertex II drives were manufactured using the 25nm process to cut costs. Apparently they have less capacity, are slower and will die sooner.

Will this fit any laptop? I've an old Toshiba Equium L350, I reckon this might make the job for it

Was looking at this drive on Amazon.com and there are loads of people where this drive failed and they had trouble getting a refund from the manufacturer.

Wow, didn't know that, found an excellent article, I am still thinking of getting 2 for a raid 0 array, reckon they would still be killer

Performance can actually be very poor with RAID 0 and SSDs. You're doubling your chances of failure too.

TRIM has only been recently possible with RAID and you need a modern Intel chipset (i.e., x7x series chipsets such as Z77, not P67 etc.).

Fair point, the latest bios - F13b for my chipset has enhancements for this
    Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X

    Beta BIOS
    Update CPU AGESA 1.2.7.1
    Update AHCI ROM 3.1.0.0
    Improve SSD compatibility

I only bought a single drive, there is a lot of things in Win7 to tune in order to get reliability such as not to use sleep/hibernate, not to defrag etc etc

Seems like a lot of RMAs everywhere i read, in fact people who bought this exact drive before the 25nm was advertised are allowed to send it back for a 32nm. I really doubt that will be allowed on this promo.

I'm taking a relatively educated (thanks to the replies) punt on this

As far as I've heard, AMD haven't released anything that will allow TRIM to run with RAID. Since Intel has it out now, AMD will most likely follow suit but it could be a while. In case you aren't aware, TRIM just erases files which have been marked as deleted. Otherwise they will only get deleted when you write over it again. This slows down the drive quite a bit.

No, there aren't a lot of things to do in windows 7 to get SSDs to work reliably. There are a lot of bullsheet guides which tell you to do things that are overkill, of no use, little relevance or even things which can work against you by cutting out chunks of your operating system. Windows 7 actually does a very good job of organising SSDs by itself if you do a clean install. I would be very careful following any guides without being crystal clear on what is being done.

As far as I know, they aren't producing the the 32nm ones anymore at this stage. In fact, I'm not even sure that they're producing the Vertex 2 at all and it might just be a warehouse cleanout.

If you are looking for high speed, you'd be better off with a newer drive. These drives are rated at 285MB/s while a new drive can be around the 500MB/s mark. To be honest, you won't even notice this speed difference except possibly booting or loading large programs. The response times will be seemingly the same.
If you do happen to look for other drives, beware of deceptive read/write speeds. Many drives (OCZ Agility/Vertex 3, Corsair Force 3/GT, Intel 330 and many more) use compression techniques to gain ostentatious speeds which are only achieved with compressible data and general speeds are lower. Not that I wouldn't buy these drives at the right price, but just don't believe all that the company trying to sell their product is telling you. For best reliability at the moment, there's the Samsung 830 and Crucial M4. You'd pay €100 for one of these that's 128GB, so it's a lot more expensive than the original offer but that's just if you're looking at a latest generation drive. The original offer is still a good deal if it's a case of having an SSD in a system vs not having SSD. It's just the life of them that you really need to be concerned about.

Out of stock and price gone up to £59.99

This is a good one for not much more money.

Or this one which is a bit less.

I'd go for it anyway, I have been using a Vertex 2 sata II for the last year, it died this week.....but since it's covered under a manufacturers 3 year warranty they asked me if I would accept an Agility 3 sata III replacement (significant upgrade). So buy the drive, and if it chokes and dies there is a great warranty system in place!

Arived while I was away, no adapter - product in a simple blister pack.

Have to admit I'd be tempted to consider the first item in Quaderno's post above - free shipping makes that a price equivilant
