Lost Log book - how long?

Test drove a new car today and went through all the motions of buying - told the garage I'd be back tomorrow with the trade in and log book but now (after myself and the family ripping the house to shreds) it looks like I have lost the log book. Does anyone know how quick I might get a replacement if I physically brought the RF134 form down to the local tax office, queued up and handed in? Or would it even make a difference?

Gutted if I lose this car!

It takes about 1 week. If you are happy with the new car and agreed price, why not put a deposit on it with the garage to hold it for you until the VLC arrives on your existing car? A genuine garage will have no problem holding it for a week or so. When buying a car, everything doesn't have to be done in one day.

It will take 5 to 10 working days, in most cases nearer 5. The form has to go to Shannon either way so bringing it to a tax office will make no difference. Explain it to the garage, they should be fine with it.
