Newb question, but if it turns out to be the lowest hard drive size, can it be easily upgraded later?

Don't know but it seems cheap even if it's 120gb ( I think thats the smallest)

Does 120gb sound right? I have a pic on my phone that ill load when I get home.
Fairly sure its 120... Sorry, turned 30 recently, memory isnt as good as it used to be.
Seems like a great deal tho, I paid 199 for my 4gb one only 18 months ago!

Edit: looks like 120 then... Posted this at the same as vicwatson

A pic would be great, don't know if 120gb is good, but 100 bills sounds good for this.

Around 5 or 6 of each in the display cabinet but there may be more. It's 24 hour so maybe someone could get in late tonight?

With a Netflix account yes. It will also upscale standard DVDs to almost HD quality and you can watch HD movies on an external hard drive with it.

    Any in Clarehall?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭OneWayBet

Very good price, guess they got a job lot on old stock. Anyone with an Elite know if it is much quieter than the earlier Core/Premium models? The noise of mine (Premium) really puts me off using it.

No noise difference at all in my experience. Personally I'd rather buy a second hand slim xbox over one of these, but its still a great price.

Slim ones are selling for around 160 new at the minute and have the added features of wireless internet and stuff..

Actually as far as I can figure this model was discontinued in 2010 and was replaced by the 4GB and 250GB models http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360#History. It is a good deal for a "new" console but for anyone thinking about an impulse purchase just make sure you know what you are buying. I may be wrong but it seems to me that this is 2007 technology. The newer models (250GB and 4GB) use 45nm technology meaning it uses about 60% less power and is a lot quieter (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p80cEZ4ZujA)

If you use it a lot this older box might end costing you more on electricity than paying more for a newer one! I would consider buying it if it was significantly quieter than the older boxes but this doesn't seem to be the case. I am open to corrections on this btw as I'm not an expert.

Whilst they are not the recent slim model, if they are the last version of the original design and a jasper they are a lot quieter than the launch models.
Power consumption differs greatly between the original launch and current, but again difference between jasper and current is not as great.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_hardware#List_of_revisions

I've had the launch version, a jasper and the current slim. The 120 gig elite with a jasper is a fine console, much quieter than the launch. Install the game onto the HDD and noise isn't a problem.

If I am not mistaken Clearwater did have some of these last week, pity they are closed until 6am,I think I will head over there then, OP did you happen to see any Wii or DS consoles on sale? I will post an update of stock levels as soon as I can.

So if I connect an external hard drive I can see any downloaded movie?. I am currently using an old laptop to watch movies, the problem is that the graphic card is crap so I cannot see any HD movie fluently

no 360s at all in Stillorgan or Dun Laoghaire, think they've all been sent to the one store to clear them out.

would love to pick one of these up for ds for xmas. Letterkenny store have none either but they had a look and found an xbox crystal for €99. From a quick google this looks like a very old model. I have no idea about xbox's at all so just wondering if anyone could help out. Would this console be any good? it would be for our 5 year old to start getting used to playing games. Don't want to buy this if newer games won't work on it, but don't want to spend alot on an xbox for the kids to probably trash either!

No, the xbox crystal is a gimickey version of the original xbox console. A predecessor to the more modern xbox 360 (I can see how it would be confusing). Finding games for it would probably be a hassle as it wasn't around for very long before it was decommissioned. Maybe a nintendo Wii would suit them better? There are some deals on those at the moment as far as I know. Alternatively you could look for a second hand Playstation 2. Still an older console but should be plenty of second hand games around for it and shouldnt break the bank.

IMO a five-year old will get little value out of an XBox as it is too advanced. Far better to get a Wii which are already discounted and may be even further at the end of the year if the new version of the console comes out.

Have a look at a raspberry pi if you just want to play movies! about 1/3 the price and a lot more compact! (obviously if you want to play xbox games it won't be any use to you, it can play nintendo and megadrive games though with the correct software!)
