This is a website that gives a brief questionnaire about a number of issues, and then shows you how much each candidate's politics align with your own.

I knew it, I'm pretty much a centrist.

83% Romney, 72% Obama, 64% Ron Paul. No idea who Johnson is, but he's also 73%.

Interestingly, I side with both Romney and Obama far more than I do with my State (California, 49%) or the nation (51%)

Well that sounds about right, although I am not sure where the 20% for Romney comes from, since I apparently don't agree with him on any major issues.

Just look at how they treated Ron Paul. With Mittens nomination, it's business as usual in America.

You mean the former Republican Governor Gary Johnstone.
Instead of citing poll numbers, Johnson talked, as he often does, about iSideWith.com, a Web site and app. “One-point-nine million have gotten online, answered thirty-six questions,” he said. “It pairs you up with the candidate most in line with your views. Based on that Web site, I’m the next President of the United States.”

Yep - the former NM Gov. Gary Johnson. The Republicans wouldn't touch him with a barge poll for President. He left the GOP because they were eager to get him off the stage in the debates - they would have flogged Ron Paul outside the arena would it not have had the "cult" as they describe his supporters, up in arms.

The GOP is not Libertarian, as a party they're bought and paid for a long time ago - they're happy with where they are and what they represent. They certainly don't represent what Johnson does. Having a guy out in NM as Gov. is one thing - having someone the mainstream Republicans perceive as a "terrorist" in the White House is another entirely.

Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Chuck Baldwin along with other Libertarians usually end up on the terrorist list in the US.

    Gary Johnson - 89%

    Virgil Goode - 43%
    Rocky Anderson - 19%

But since I despise politicians of nearly every stripe, I'm not terribly surprised that the results are as even as they are.

I'm assuming many Paul people have had a turn of stomach this week. Was it really going to get them anywhere in the end? I can understand using the party as a vehicle but the notion some are espousing over on certain forums asking us to vote Romney is totally delusional - what are these people smoking?

The two party system is rotten - perhaps with enough backing (which Ron Paul people are hesitant to give) for Gary Johnson, we could see the guy getting the numbers (with a bit of extraordinary luck) or at least get a couple percentage points more for others to take note and realise that some Americans are disenfranchised with both major parties.

Why Paul people are not jumping for joy that another Libertarian will be on all 50 ballot papers is beyond me. They're shooting themselves in the foot. But then again, these people refer to themselves as Consitutional/ Conservatives whatever....they don't even see themselves as Libertarians. If Johnson got in the official national debates on live telly, it would be a game changer, I believe. Where's the money bombs for Gary? The Johnson brochures? The poll runs? Seems some people turned Paul into some kind of cult hero - it has destroyed their reasoning that this is not about one man...it's about the goal.

    Am I blind?

I just don't see Rand as the natural successor. I can't, for the life of me, see the attraction to someone that has endorsed a guy like Mitt Romney. I like Ron Paul, but I think it's unfair that his weakness for his sons political aspirations will, in the end, undermine what could potentially be some major inroads with a n endorsement of the Libertarian Party. Am I incorrect in saying that?

Perhaps we have to look at Rands voting record but I know he doesn't compare, nor does he see himself as far as I understand, next or near his father on a philosophical level. Maybe he's just playing the game and that's all well and good, but wouldn't this be a violation of his Libertarian principles? As far as I can see, Rand Paul is a Republican Conservative - he is not a Libertarian. I do believe Ron goes one further though - I think he's a closet Voluntaryist. But this is just guesswork.

I'm rooting for Gary this November - I think he has a lot to learn about means of exchange, regulation/taxation, the NAP (although has this any relevance to anyone but Paul?) My question is as a Libertarian, surely the well-informed would understand that such a society would undoubtably call for the elimination of the US Constitution in time?
