    Hi,

My friends 2007 toyota dyna 3.0 litre has developed a knocking in the engines big end i think.
He has priced another engine and best price he can get is 2400euro plus vat for one with 39k with 4 weeks warranty...
However this breaker wants the old engine back for that price..
I have purchased various engines for other makes of cars etc from these guys and they just didnt want the old engines back...but wants this one or the price will be more but maybe these can be repaired
I dont know whether it would be worth spending this sort of money on the vehicle..

Aren't these the same block as the land cruiser? Maybe try ivi.
I'd want more than a months warranty given the complexity of that engine.

they were only giving 2 weeks at the beginning as he says they gives loads of bother and only have the one left but thats big money for an engine

Walk away if they're that skeptical on how it will turn out.

he not vat registered either so not going to pay that but the dyna could be sitting up a long while as the engines are hard to find for these, the 3litre is a crap engine, you would expect more from toyota...

    Try a few other places.

Got this from partfinder, but I'm thinking if it's 05 it's 2.5 and not 3.0, worth a ring

Is it the 1KD-FTV or the 5L version ?
If its the D4D (1KD-FTV)version then a landcruiser engine should just drop in?

It's probably not to recon it that the scrapper want the old one back for. You'll find different engines have different bits and pieces that the scrapper knows he can sell on hence why he is offering 2 prices. one for engine without all the bits he want to further sell on or price no 2 with all the extra bits going back to him for resale.

When you are gettinng a 2nd hand engine a lot of time you get a bare shell so you need to transfer things like injector pump, injectors, altenator basically everything you can take off the old one. Your guys are probably offering you a complete engine without all the hassle of transferring these on the condition they get the old one to take off all those extras. For some engines an injector pump could fetch a big % of the price of hte engine.

Although their warranty policy is a bit iffy!! They rather dealing with trade I presume you are looking to but and fit yourself? If not your mechanic would probably get a better deal on the warranty on it as he'd have a relationship with the scrapper (if it's local)
