Applied Nutrition for Mixed Sports by Lyle McDonald

It seem to get rave reviews and is heralded as a one stop manual for sports nutrition but it is quite expensive!

As far as I can see I can only buy it online from his website too. Does anyone know where it is available cheaper (maybe without the dvds) or failing that can anyone offer a good alternative (for mixed sports more specifically gaelic football)?

You could most certainly obtain a download to "review" before paying for a physical copy if that's your thing. I've actually done it befor myself. Was so impressed with a other one of his books I ordered it after seeing a PDF.

I've read bits of the one you're after, it was a pain in the hole. Which probably means its great. Lyle's stuff is generally pretty solid.

    Thanks for the reply Hanley.

Unfortunately I can't locate a download for it anywhere and it's a little out of my price-range. Do you have any recommendations for something similar (+ a little cheaper) which focuses on "mixed sports"?

They are also illegal. No more encouragement or tips on illegal downloads please.

I found The Grappler's Guide to Sports Nutrition for a snip online ;)

I enjoyed it but the onus was specifically on wrestlers (you don't say) and as such some of it wasn't particularly relevant i.e. making the weight etc.

I found it slightly perplexing that in the Case studies used, athletes lost bodyfat and added muscle mass while increasing overall calorie intake. I'm assuming that the starting point here was poor dietary choices and unbalanced levels of macro-nutrients and that's why this happened?

If not, kind of flies in the face of other stuff i've read. Any thoughts?

Would be interested to get my hands on that Mixed sports books but not at that price. The search continues...

And he's such a nice guy too! :D

Lyle's stuff is very good. Very well researched and he doesn't make any outrageous claims as to how well following his advice will work for you.
