what does patched firmware for the ferguson 150 give you?

I am interested in this box the ferguson 150 combo so doing a bit of research, found a site where it mentions patched firmware, can someone explain what this patched firmware does, does it enhance the box, eg better channel info etc or what exactly does it do? and is it essential to have it? gbc

Nothing essential with "Patched" software. The only thing which may be required are software updates from the manufacturer, usually just to improve stability of the box. Seldom these updates add much extra functionality to the box. However "Patched" software in this sense seems to imply that its a third party take on the operating software. Came across this on the Ariva 150 Thread . Long & short, Steer clear of patched boxes.
