I think you'll be split into groups. When I went into first year there was only one group and it was only just about manageable. I think the first years a couple of years ago were split into group A and B for some classes. You're all separated for your language as well.

From what I can remember from first year, it's usually quite busy. You'll have a good few hours. Tbh the first semester is all a bit hazy because your classes are jammed and the timetable will most likely be awful. I think we had the ICT module on a Friday evening which put a dampener on the whole semester haha. The second semester can be better because you know your way around and you know how everything works.

You have six modules each semester. The timetable tends to stay the same. Can't really remember the hours for everything, but History is 3 hours (in one block), as is EuroSoc. Marketing tends to be slipt up, and your language (4 hours?) will be spread throughout the week. Politics is in one lump as well I think (3 hours maybe?). You should get your timetable in the second meeting which happens a few days after registration.

If you have any question feel free to PM me. :)

Got offered this course today. Not crazy about the Erasmus thing even though I know a lot would be. I presume it's compulsory from what I've read.

Would love to hear more about what the course is like and any job success stories resulting from it.

    Cheers

....Did I just witness the start of a romantic relationship on Boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 AaronBrennan

@pluie that would be sound! it sounds pretty intense but good at the same time :)!

@Gel - ye i'm nearly 100% sure that the Erasmus in 3rd year is compulsory and i have no clue about the jobs that entail from completing the course!

Is the Erasmus one semester or the whole year? Does anyone for sure know if it can be ducked out of or only done for one semester, I'm asking on behalf of someone with no boards login.

    Thanks in advance.

The Erasmus year is compulsory and is for two semesters. You'll hear all sorts of rumours that you can do 3rd year in Tallaght or do some work placement in Dublin somewhere. You can't. You either do the Erasmus or you leave the course completely. A lot of people tend to be apprehensive about it but honestly the year abroad flies by and it's something you'll only be able to do once in your life. You'll have a pre-departure module in semester 3 and 4 that will basically prepare you for the year abroad and the processes you have to go through. I think your language classes in those semesters are centered around preparing you linguistically for the year abroad as well.

I think the problem lies in the fact the lady in question has a child, which seems to have ruled out the whole course due this, 1 Semester was possible but 2...not a chance.

Is it possible to change course within the college if you can't do the Erasmus or do you have to wait till next years CAO again...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 AaronBrennan

@SafetyPin: cray cray as f*ck bro :p! and ye the Erasmus is probably one of the main reasons i'm doing this course, looks pretty cool!

@merlynthewizard: i'm not sure but i'd go to the registration anyway and ask any questions you have, they're pretty helpful from what i remember from last time and will clarify everything for ya!

Who here was planning to do French this year? We need to get our numbers together so we can present a case to the college in favour of bringing it back! Please private message me

They've scrapped French?! What have they replaced it with? I know Italian used to be a module but they got rid of it. I'm surprised because it seemed to be the most popular language option, closely followed by Spanish. Weird!

    It's just German and Spanish.

Would've been in favour for Italian if it were there though. :P

From what I could see French was always the most popular. Spanish was popular but seemed to attract both beginners and people who studied it in school, so the classes were split but still smaller in total numbers than French from what I can remember. The German classes always seemed to have a handful of people in them. Maybe they're trying to get more people into Spanish and German. I dunno. Seems odd to get rid of such an important and popular module, but I'm sure they have a good reason!
