iTunes Issue

Have iTunes on the laptop and all my music stored on an external hard drive.

For some reason iTunes cannot locate any of the music files on the external hard drive any more. (all files are still intact on the external drive)

Anyone have any ideas why this has happened and how to solve it

Might be that each time you plug in the drive it's being assigned a new drive letter ? Try assigning it one rather than letting Windows choose it for you. This will mean having to add the music again I think but should sort the problem out.

Another option it to click play on one of the missing songs, iTunes will complain it can't find it and offer the option of finding it manually. Once you've found that song iTunes should ask if you'd like to find the other missing songs in the same location. Not sure it will find them if they're in different directories though.

    Good man Ken

The second option seems to have worked.

The drive always seems to come up as F. I've never set it up like that...might just be luck. How do i assign it?

In iTunes look for library settings and see if you can change the location there, itunes uses a xml file to locate the media I think so this may sort it
