Myself and himself are together 6 years now bu never been on holidays together as we never really had money. We are planning on going away from 5th-8th/9th September but don't know where. I have only ever been to manchester and paris and birmingham. We are only going for 3 days, I suggested Paris as he has never been and I dont mind going again, or london but has anyone else any suggestions?

Barcelona is nice and cheap to get there. Don't go back to Paris as you need to see more places!

Rome is a great place if you're into history too

Brussels/Luven are good and they are very cheap. Prague is another good spot although Ryanair don't fly there.

+1 for Barcelona. I went there with my (ex) girlfriend back in the day and had a great time, cool city.

    Also recommend Barcelona, great city.

Another favourite of mine is Nice which is amazing... Aer Lingus fly direct daily, Ryanair fly a few times a week. Plenty to do to keep you occupied for 3 days, Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, and lots of cool places just very short train hops away. Almost guaranteed the weather, the heat certainly anyway but it's not a killer being by the coast. I don't know anyone who has been who didn't have a great time, the shopping is awesome, great bars and restaurants (food is amazing) You have all the influence of Italy sneaking in there too which is just a short hop over the border.

I'd highly recommend Berlin, followed by Lisbon.

Are you committed to going in September, or is October a possibility? Just asking because Aer Lingus have good sale fares on from Oct onwards, and to be honest if you're just going for a couple of days it's a lot less stress/hassle flying with them instead of Ryanair. In my humble opinion of course!

London is great if you've never been. You should be able to get flights pretty cheaply if moneys an issue. Not sure how much accomadation will set you back as I usually stay with my brother. There is a lot to see and do over there although a lot of the big touristy attractions (the london eye, madame taussads etc.) is quite expensive but you can get good deals online. Apart from that the London open top bus tour is cheap enough and very worthwhile and also includes walking tours and river cruises and there are also a lot of very big interesting museums which are mostly free admission. Only thing is there's no guarantee for good weather.

I had a week in the Algarve last December. It was VERY cheap (€120 each for flights, accomadation and airport transfers) but it was the complete off season meaning that there wasn't a huge amount to do although the weather was great compared to home and there was enough things to do to keep us busy on most days. It was worth it just for the weather alone but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking at somewhere with lots of things to do everyday.

    Christmas in Cologne

Best city break I've ever had in Europe with the other half was Rome, fascinating city with so much to see and do! Might be too hot in September though, we went in February and I found that to be the perfect climate, hot but not too hot.

Others that I enjoyed were Berlin, London and Amsterdam (Actually really interesting place once you look past the whole weed and prostitution)

Wouldn't really recommend Cologne/Dusseldorf, more of Hen/Stag type destinations because there isn't a whole lot to do besides drink and walk around the Altstadt.

Another vote for Rome, love it and so much to see.
    Barcelona is nice too.

Loads of great suggestions and there really is no bad choice but don't forget about Madrid. Perhaps not as picturesque as Barcelona but it is a big and happening city. It is a good value, nice parks, museums, shopping, ... easy to get around (take the metro direct from airport to the centre), and endless late night strolling/eating/drinking.

I say base it on what you want to eat that weekend - tapas, french cuisine, italian food, german beer gardens, or perhaps chocolate and beer in Brussels.

Another vote for Barcelona or Amsterdam.

Both easy to get to, short flights, plenty to see and do. Have fun :)

Rome for me too. Beautiful city, friendly folk, ice cream and coffee.
