    Hi all,

First time poster in this section but was looking for a bit if advice re above. It seems a pressure/scam tactics approach but was wondering what my legal position is.

Basically what happened was that they sent weekly letters at the start which were worded like a government agency looking for info on business etc & wanting you to become part of thesis European guide for businesses. So after a number of requests I filled out form signed it & sent it away not thinking anything of it & then invoices started to come. 1120 euro odd plus vat but didn't take heed to them as tried ringing but never an answer. Now second year invoices have come & stating that my signature entitles them to 2 years with this guide thing. Now I've checked them our & they are defo scammers as I can see. They have now sent letters saying I've been referred to a european debt collection agency & I will incur costs re this.

So I would appreciate any info re my rights on this situation. Things are very tight money wise. Even if things were flush I'd hesitate paying for this.

    Thanks in advance for comments

That scam has been going on for years, throw the demands in the bin, they will never chase you into court.

    Thanks for reply

Do you think so. The letters are coming hot & heavy but I guess it's just pressure tactics. How are they getting away with this ( the feckers)

They are going for years and they make money from you not reading the small print. It does clearly say you sign up at so much per year. I have two of them and did think of signing up with a silly name to give them the runaround.

    Ignore it.

Thanks for reply. R u literally throwing these letters in the bin. I filled some questionnaire saying u are against the ECG. Apparently the next step is the phone calls. Are u just holding out?

    Hi all
I don't know whether any of you are still being bothered by the European City Guide? Our solution was to do our research and determined that the SALE OF GOODS AND SUPPLY OF SERVICES ACT, 1980 dealt specifically with this type of "directory scam". See Section 48 (1),(2), (3) and(4). Check it on Google.
We issued a letter to the European City Guide pointing out that they were in breech of Irish Law, quoting the foregoing sections and advising them to desist or face prosecution here under the Act.
The annoying phone calls ceased immediately and no further emails or threatening letters were received.

Received one of their letters last year. Into the bin with it.
