New ssd windows change advice

    Just put in the SSD and unplug the HDD.
    Then install windows 7 to the SSD.
    Reconnect the HDD.
    Check the boot order so that the SSD boots first. You'll then be able to see everything on the HDD and copy whatever you want from it.

    then can i simply delete the windows files in the old hard drive?
    as i want the old hard drive there, as i have a spare sata port, just for storage

    Yeah. If you don't have a retail copy of windows, you're going to have to backup up your activation or ring up Microsoft to say that you switched hard drive.
