Does somebody know how much would you receive from the Student Assistance Fund? I know amount depends on your needs (like rent and bills), but what is the usual amount?
And are payments regular (like every week or month or sth)?

It's not available to Junior Freshman (1st Years) and you have to prove that you're in serious financial hardship.
It's means-tested so you have to provide detailed financial information (Your income, parents income, a bank statement from you and your parents etc.)
You also have to tell them what you need the money for as they won't give it to you to pay for certain things like tuition or the registration fee and you provide receipts on what you spend the money on.
This fund is really for those who are in sudden financial difficulties (Like losing your job and parents not being able to give you the money while you're looking for a new one, for example) but have payments to meet like medical expenses, basic living expenses or rent for example. I don't think it's on a recurring basis.

The Student Union is easier to go to and will provide you with a €100 interest-free loan if you need it.

I'd have to disagree, it is available to junior freshmen, as I am applying for it towards childcare and this will be my first year. I have been in touch with someone through email (sorry can't remember the dept) and they informed me to apply once I'd registered. There are different types of funding available depending on circumstances and whether or not you are a dependent (living with or off your parents).

The best thing to do is contact TCD directly for more info, hope this helps

I've contacted TCD but they never replied to my email :(
I was wondering whether I can rely on this fund to help me pay for my living expenses ...

    Anyway, thanks a lot! :)

I'd say exceptions are made for mature students, but the Senior Tutor website says
Financial Assistance is not normally given to students in the Junior Freshman year, nor to students who are repeating a year
