+ 1 for Teamviewer I use it on my phone to control my pc at home when out and about for downloading things etc

I've used RealVNC before, though the free version isn't for professional use and doesn't support encryption. Other free VNC implementations like TightVNC have a similar issue. I suppose you could always use an SSH tunnel to encrypt the traffic, but that can get fiddly...

    Teamviewer will do same job

Logmein free is better if you need constant access to the machine, such as sorting the parents computers out ;) . Team Viewer is more efficient for just once off access.

Nah, if you need constant access, you install Teamviewer Host, which starts as a service.

If it has windows professional then you have remote desktop built in, just gotta enable it. If it's windows home then try what the guys above suggested.

The built-in windows remote desktop is a lot better than the other products imo (since ms bought citrix etc etc).

Tried it, tbh just like the way logmein works. Don't get me wrong, team viewer is excellent as well (and also has the free mobile app) but logmein just has something about it that I prefare where regular remote access is neccesary

Well, I haven't been using Logmein since they installed their own virtual display adapter, which caused me a lot of hassle on more than one occasion. (they still do that?)

And of course you can get Teamviewer for iOS and Android.

Does logmein have a free once off access option similar to Teamviewer?

Logmein is also on iOS and Android, they've just done the asinine thing where the free version isn't on Android; you need to have Logmein Pro for that. In general though, I much prefer the logmein interface for touch devices.

www.join.me rocks and is very quick. Great for remote support. Use it every day multiple times.

Nope, TV is better for once off access (get the other person to download the quicksupport app), whereas logmein you must install it linked to your account on the machine.

Still there + it is optional to install/not installed by default

Where does Crossloop sit these days? is it still free and does anyone use it much.

I've tried joinme but I much prefer Teamviewer.

I use both Teamviewer and LogMeIn often enough and I find them both fine to use.

I'd probably go with LogMeIn moreso myself for the sake of ease and speed in logging onto remote machines. I find it that bit handier that I can hop onto any machine to remote access without downloading software.

I used Teamviewer. I used to use Logmein but due to the restrictions etc.. i found it off putting an Teamviewer is super easy.

I've used LogMeIn for years and really like it. I tried teamviewer but never got anywhere with it, found it unintuitive and just didn't bother trying to get it to work, might give it another bash as what I want is the ability to one-time remotely control someone else's computer if they call me with a problem. However does Join.me to this? I watched the demo but it looks more like screen sharing..

i started off using logmein, but due to some access issues over the years (mostly related to work proxies blocking it) i switched to teamviewer.

i still use both, but i find teamviewer suits my needs better, so it gets more use than logmein does these days.

I think the conclusion that can be reached here is Logmein and teamviewer are both viable options and down to personal preference.

I too use both TV & Logmein and I think yoyo hit the nail on the head with is thoughts that TV is better for once off access (get the other person to download the quicksupport app), whereas logmein is better for ongoing regular repetitive access.
