What a nightmare of a year . Have a lot of wheat and barley to cut myself. Is there anyone in the same boat as me here? When will this weather take up

Are you serious with that question?

The answer is "most likely every tillage farmer in the country"

Same story here - a few hours grabbed here and there.

Straw is also a nightmare and crops are quite green.

    Hopefully after Wednesday....

Heading out now to try some wheat, open up some headlands at least.

27% moisture, the dryer weather would want to come soon.

We cut enough to fill two loads of the dryer, mainly because it's easy to find sprouts though seeing as it's oakley that's not a surprise.

Not particularly but always open to a good offer I suppose.

I do have access to a big crimper but one problem is that my understanding is that crimping works best with unripe grain, mine is just wet.....

it will be all gathered up in the next while. I have yet to see a missed harvest locally. best to sit back and relax as corn at that high a moisture is no fun irrespective of the price. what sort of bushel are you getting lads?

Might not be much left after the rain today!!

But I agree little point in cutting above 21%.

Cut a few acres of barley yesterday evening - moisture probably a bit high but hopefully a bit of finer weather later in the week will get things back on track. Yesterday's bit wouldn't give much hope for yield or quality though unfortunately

We cut 13 acre wheat yesterday, was a great drying day up here.moisture was 20-22%. very wet this morning but dried up again in the afternoon. hopefully will get at it again this week. our spring barley and oats just about ready. Not many people have started spring harvest yet here ,crops slow to ripen. last year it was awfull up here at harvest, real smash and grab job, no pleasure in it. hoping it wont be a repeat..

I have 1 field and there's no way a combine will move through it . it will take at least 3 weeks to dry it out

I hope ye've stopped posting cos ye're too busy cutting. Looks like whatever's there will be saved at this stage or am I wrong?

I saw a field with oats the other day, I'd day a third of it has layed, will they still be able to pick it up and will the grain be still of use?

Oats can knee break, combine would still be able to get under it and lift it no probs, grain would be fine though maybe will have lost its colour a bit.
Takes a bit longer to dry out though before cutting.
