Flying Aer Lingus with an Infant

    Hi all.

We will be flying with Aer Lingus from Dublin to Orlando in January 2013. We are a party of 2 adults, an 11 year old and an 11 month old.

We have booked the bassinette for the young lad and have been allocated rows 12 going one way and row 11 going the other. This has led to a couple of questions.

    1) Will the basinette be big enough for our thumper?

    2) Will our 2 seats be directly behind him or will he be over to one side of us?

    3) Will we have individual screens like everyone else on the plane or will we have to share? (Our TV interests are very opposed to each other, just trying to avoid a row here!)

We have traveled quite a bit in the past but never with a rug-rat and never took much notice of anyone that was traveling with little ones so all info and advice gratefully received!

    Many Thanks

1: They are about the width of one and a half plane seats, they are basically a cardboard box, attaches to a fold down tray in front of
the seats. They are lined with plenty of blankets and pillows.

2: In front of you, they allocate certain seats for parents with babies in a bassinet

    3. You will have your own screens, on those rows, the screens are under the arm rest, on a movable arm as opposed to being in front
    of you.

The bassinet row seats are probably the best on the plane, even with the baby in front of you, you will still have the most room in
    economy

Are bassinets available on morning flights to Malaga with A330? If they are, I'm wondering if need to book specific seat or that would be assigned at check in.

Definitely need to book that ahead of time.

But there are no blankets on EI shorthaul, so a bassinet would not be lined for the infant.
The blankets are loaded prior to departure on each longhaul aircraft and cleared off after every longhaul flight.

An A330 flight to Malaga will most definitely have blankets aboard and you will get baby belts also. There are also changing tables in the toilets.

When did Aer Fungus start charging to carry infants? I thought u-2's travelled free? I see AL are charging 20eur per flight for the priviledge of the child sitting on the parents lap.

At least the past 3 years that Ive been travelling with infants.

For the 20 euro flatrate charge you do get to checkin a buggy for free (and also a car seat I think but have never tried)
The buggy you can bring with you to the gate or door of plane depending on the airport and a member of the ground crew will then bring it away and stow it in the hold and it'll be delivered then at the other side on arrival.

I always presumed that this service and the cost of the handling was the (unstated) reason that they charge a fee for infants abeit you pay it even if you dont bother with bringing a buggy.
