Try Traynor's up in the North as the 2.0 SDi is a very rare car in the South. VW gearboxes of that vintage were made of chocolate.

    Cadburys or Lily o Briens?

    OP you could try

    Partfinder.co.uk

    or

    partsgateway.co.uk

It may not matter how rare SDI Golfs are, the gearboxes used are often common across a range of engines. But then I'm sure the breakers would know which ones are compatible as well.

I have used www.vwaudibits.co.uk to buy a gearbox off before and found them good to deal with. You can pay over the phone with a credit card and they courier it to you the next day.

Try Dempseys in Ballina, they deliver free to certain parts of the country particularly the west. Had a good experience with them, twice now.

My 2000 Golf is on it's third gearbox, piece of crap. I was told that they could go as early as 30,000 miles. A certain bolt goes and game over. There is a mod I believe but the car is worth less than the gearbox at the moment.

But cannot believe there's similar problems on the Mk5 model. You'd think VW would learn.
