Car Mechanic in South County Dublin

    Hi all

Car just failed NCT on four points and I am looking to get non-ripoff quotes from a reliable mechanic to do the work. Basically, car only cost €500 and had it nearly a year, so really need to know if I can get this through NCT without having to pay stupid amounts. If anyone can suggest someone reliable who will give a free quote for the work, would be really grateful.

My apologies if this thread is a duplicate, tried searching but did not find any recent threads to address this.

    Thanks to all who reply.

Well anywhere within reason as still have the car !!

OK to narrow it down, Shankhill to Sandyford - also Bray if anyone there but like I say, for the right person I will drive there.

You'll have to say what the car failed on to get a proper answer. Did it fail on rust? A damaged Mirror? Emissions? Tracking? Brakes? Windscreen cracked? Not all mechanics will fix all problems?

Also, try to make sure your car is in the best condition possible, rather than just scraping through the NCT each time. It'll save you money in the long run to have a well maintained car.

Hi Kevin and thanks for the constructive comments.

It failed on the following (I think first three not too expensive but the last one if the killer) :-

Leaking shock nearside (will get both replaced)
One CV Boot missing (Offside front inner)
One CV Boot frayed/cut (Offside front)
Primary structural corrosion - main structural member (Centre) - told me this is rusted through and prob need to be replaced.

Car is a Renault Megane 1998.

When I bought the car is was NCTd till end this month. Last year I had full service and was going to do same this year (at Nissan) but guy told me it would cost a small fortune with all the things wrong for NCT and so did not do service. To be fair, they did not charge me anything but an inspection fee, and said this can be deducted if I decide to have full service.

Really grateful for any advice/contacts with this.

    Thanks

Not sure what a shock would cost at all.

CV Boot is a cheap part, but would probably be at least an hours labour to change both.

The main problem is a rusted structural member, which could cost a small fortune to fix if it has to be cut out and a new part welded back in.

I'm no expert at all, wait for more complete responses from others here.
