I want to change from a single LNB to a Dual LNB so that I am ready for the digital switch over (to retain my UK freeview channels). Is it fairly easy to change a LNB or do I need a satelite detector ? I would prefer to do this myself and learn how it is done.

"FreeView" refers to terrestrial channels using an ordinary aerial if you are within range of a Welsh or NI transmitter. Free UK channels using a satellite is referred to as free-to-air (FTA). "FreeSat" is a branded product using the same satellite signals but more advanced box.
DSO has nothing to do with satellite as such. If you mean you want to change a single LNB to a dual or quad LNB to feed several boxes then it is a simple swap and add the required extra cables. At most you may need to fine tune the position by a few mm.
The Irish channels are not free from the same satellite as the UK channels but from a different satellite system in a different part of the sky. If you are thinking of using two separate LNBs for UK and SaorSat (Irish channels) it is a far more complex job best left to someone more experienced.

    Thanks Gerry Wicklow.
I suppose I should explain my situation more clearly. I currently have a second TV thats served by an Irish aerial and a UK aerial. If I buy a bog standard saorview box I will only get the 6 Irish stations and I believe I will not able to pick up the UK analogue signal anymore. Is this correct.

My plan is to buy a combi box that will look after my Irish and English channels Once I connect the dish to it as well, hence why I want to chnage the LNB. Is this what I need to do or have you advice ?

If you currently get UK tv by aerial you should be able to get FreeView also. At present the NI transmitters are running very low power but will be boosted at DSO. A SaorView box or Tv should also show FreeView SD but might not be fully compatible with text etc. Likewise a "FreeView HD" box or TV should also show SaorView but again may not be fully compatible. A standard FreeView tv or box will NOT show SaorView.
