Strongest wheels?

    Gents
I'm looking for recommendations for a strong rear wheel. It's for my commuting bike which is Felt Speed 30. I'm 6ft and built generously (tipping the scales at 106Kg) so I'm finding that my daily 28K commute is hard on the rear wheel which needs regular attention to keep it true.

Is there a particular brand of wheel known for robustness rather than to the usual concerns of light weight, aerodynamics etc etc?

I've got a handbbuilt rear coming from touring specialists spa cycles tiagra hub , rigid sputnik rim, 36 spokes, different weight spokes on driveside. if that breaks..........

Handbuilt Mavic Open Pro Rims with decent Shimano Tiagra, 105 or Ultegra Hubs.
Hard to beat this combination if they are built by a good wheelbuilder. I got mine in Staggs in Lucan and they are class.

Thanks lads, it seems handbuilt is the way to go! Nice chap in the Bikerack said the same thing and the price he was quoting didn't seem expensive compared to some of the standard wheels on offer...

Mavic askiums doin well for me starting out at nearly 108 kg,

Only noticed recently that rear askium has perfectly radial spokes on the non driven side of the rear wheel which must help strength, while the cassette side spokes are angled.

Mavic are around a long time.

i'm not far off your weight and my other bike has mavic kysrium sl (red hubs fro bling) on them, the other bike tends to carry luggage in and out of work hence why i'm getting touring bike guys to build it

I got the Planet X cyclocross ones after having plenty of problems with wheels staying true. I'm the same weight as you and they've been fine.

Do they post to Ireland? Website says no. Just emailed them to see if they will.
    Cheers.

Well planetX, they do do deliveries, this is the email I got off them when I inquired earlier this year. Best ring them to double check, they seem like a one man operation!
    Hello,

Thank you for your enquiry. We stopped doing international orders due to our
    impatient international customers!

However, we will restart sending goods overseas, for a trial period only. We
make a trip to the PO with the international orders once every 1-2 weeks,
depending on how busy we are. International orders are more labour intensive
than mainland UK orders to process.

Shipping will take around a month and the goods will be sent Royal Mail
standard airmail, which is not tracked but is very reliable. You can order
online by putting your full address in the form but you
must select UK as the country. Shipping will depend on the weight of the
    item.

    Rim - Mavic Open Pro
Hub - Dura Ace if affordable, otherwise Ultegra
Spokes - as many as possible. Min 32, 36 if possible.

The spokes should be crossed and not radially laced, which is the likely case.
