I messed up picking RAM on another computer and it kept causing the BSOD, so I would like some help this time.

The motherboard is an MSI 770-C45, Processor is an AMD Athlon II X4 630 @ 2.80GHz and the machine is running Win7 64 bit.

Need 8 or 12 GB, depending on the price. If someone could link me to well priced RAM on dabs.ie etc. I would really appreciate it! :)

    http://www.memoryc.ie/products/description/8GB_G_Skill_DDR3_PC3_10600_1333MHz_CL9_NT_Series_Desktop_dual_channel_memory_kit-2x4GB_/index.html

    Above will work.

According to MSI that MB supports DDR in the following speeds DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC)

That motherboard is dual channel so you want to buy memory in pairs, not three.

So you can go for combinations like the following

    (2 X 4GB) = 8GB
    (2 X 4GB) + (2 X 2GB) = 12GB
    (4 X 4GB) or (2 X 8GB) = 16GB

You should buy DDR3 PC3-12800 1600 MHz DIMM Non-ECC as it will be the best value for performance.

www.memoryc.ie is an Irish owned and operated company.

    4GB GeIL PC3-12800 1600MHz Value Plus CL9 Dual Channel kit (2x2GB) - €27.06
    8GB GeIL PC3-12800 1600MHz Value Plus CL9 Dual Channel kit (2x4GB) - € 47.97

4GB is plenty for basic uses (web, office etc), 8GB is recommended for gaming and photo/video editing. Greater than 8GB is only necessary if you are doing some very heavy duty work in which case I would recommend a better PC.

Cheers lads, looking at the RAM you listed above, this would also work?
    I have 2 x 4GB sticks of it here in a box.

I see in moredith's post he says my mobo supports 1600Mhz, but it has to be overclocked. I'm guessing the motherboards don't come overclocked so I would have to do that before trying the ram I have here. Easy enough I guess?

Yeah they shold work but OCing isn't necessarily a good idea. Its been a while since I did any but from what I remember you can OC some CPUs out of the box for a minimal increase but anything that's worth while doing usually requires extra cooling. Plus as sink says Memoryc is a good company so I would recommend buying off them. Done it twice so far. Products arrived quickly with free delivery.

Quick update lads. I decided to put in the 8GB of corsair RAM I have lying here. I ram memtest while I was away and when I came back there was 8 errors on it which is pretty bad.

I went into the BIOS to take a look, as it mentioned on the error message that my system might not be configured correctly, causing the error. I found a part in the BIOS called 'FSB/DRAM Ratio', which was set to Auto. I have no idea when I'm doing, but I noticed that the option under this one changed when I moved the ratio from auto to another option. Auto = 1333 and 1:6 turned to to 1600.

I have no idea what I'm doing to be honest, but I thought with it set to auto already it would have been able to sort the system out itself. Maybe this Corsair RAM is just bad?

My previous RAM is PC3-10666 1333MHz. I can't see myself running into any problems if I just bought 8GB of that kind of RAM?

    Try the Crucial Scanner here

It'll scan your machine & tell you what's already installed & what is compatible.
