Bringing components in hand luggage

    Hi all

I was going to ship my PC from Ireland to Italy and although I had it well padded up my friend advised me to strip the computer, post the tower and bring all of the components in my hand luggage when I fly back. Is all that really necessary and if I go ahead with it are there any dangers to the components by going through scanning machines etc?

    Thanks in advance

I would just take out the CPU and and graphics card - as long as you can package them well. I would leave the rest in.

Taking the motherboard and everything else out is probably even more risky - they're probably safer in a hard tower case than jumping around in a carry on bag.

Good point. Cheers. Anything to fear from the scanners?

I wouldn't think so, no. Lots of electronics go through those scanners and you never hear about anything breaking. Don't take my word for it though!

Considering laptops HAVE to go through X-rays all the time in airports id imagine you will be fine.

Only issue might be if security see lots of circuit boards & cables it might lead to a more "thorough" investigation of your luggage & cause delays. I brought a MB from Heathrow to Dublin (back in the days when we were busy bombing Britain), & security eventually ended up emptying my toothpaste tube, such was their interest!!
