    hi,
I live in a rural area and can't get broadband from eircom over their line. Does this mean i won't be able to get it from anyone else?

Depends on where you live, check what fixed wireless companies might operate in your area.

yes is the answer to your question nearly all broadband is bitstream (supplied by eircom and just branded differently)

As zerks says see if there are any Fixed Wireless Providers in your area
