Going from Benefit to Allowance but starting college in Sept

    Hi

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what this means for me.

My jobseekers benefit dried up mid August and so have to go onto Allowance now, but will be starting college in early Sept and I'm currently applying for BTEA.

So I'm not actively seeking work as going into college so maybe I won't qualify for the allowance and if I don't qualify for jobseekers Allowance then I won't get BTEA... Am I right?

I've been on Social welfare for over 12 months and if after all that time I'm told I won't get BTEA at this stage I'll cry!

I received a letter this eve saying I have to come in for interview on Tuesday.... Haven't been onto citizens advice yet as only got the letter this eve and they and the social welfare office are now closed for the wkend.

    So worried now...

The rule is 234 days of unemployment. Job seekers allowance and benefits are both qualifying payments. You BTEA shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for replying to me, but I'm wondering is will I even qualify for Jobseekers allowance as I am not now actively seeking work as I am going in to college the week after next. And if I don't qualify for Jobseekers Allowance does that mean I won't qualify for BTEA?

    Lets put it this way:

Until you are confirmed as getting BTEA, your not going to Uni therefore you are still looking for work. If they ask what your plan is tell them you hope to qualify for BTEA but until then, your still looking for a job.
You'd have to get a real scumbag if they kicked you off the dole just to jeopardize you chance at BTEA, only for you to sign on again anyway.

Ya Thank you so much I will say that. I just really hope I don't get a scumbag cause there are 1 or 2 in there... Thanks again so much for taking the time to reply.

I just hope I don't fall at the last hurdle now...

Take to citizens advice as well just in case they have different information. Good luck with college.
