I dropped out of DIT last december and I was too late to get any refund on my college fees. I have applied to UL this year but have just found out I might have to pay the full fee of around 7000 this year??
I'm waiting to hear back from the college about this but want to know if anyone has been in the same situation or knows anything about this?

I've only heard of the fees being waived for two reasons:
    • After a five year break in studies (doesn't apply in your case), and
    • Where the student dropped out of the first course because of serious illness. Medical reports (fairly detailed ones) would be needed to go down that route.
It would be a good idea for you to contact DIT and ask if they claimed for you under the free fees (I know some colleges have a cut-off date around the end of October. DIT's might be later than that. If they didn't you might be luck with your new course.

yeah I'm in a similar situation myself, i was in a level 7 course last year in DIT dropped out unofficially may because it really wasn't for me , did a PLC course this year and got my first choice offer for a level 8 course.

Got a letter today saying I'm due to pay 4450 in fees this year because I'm returning to college.. i have applied for a loan ( which at the time put down 2,250 for ) and grant recently so waiting reply.

I'm praying i get one, as i have never applied for a grant or maintenance allowance before.

I actually don't know how I'm going to manage/ can i go to college.

To make things even more confusing, the letter says that of course students can pay in two installments, first one due next Tuesday
and that the second installment is due Jan 2013.

So i don't know if that means i would be required to pay on top of the already required fees of 4450, as the letter stated that students were issued the first installment.

I'm still job searching too, but even restaurants are telling me they need someone with years of experience. So I'm up to my eyes as it is.

deferring for a year i cant say would be a 100 percent choice because i actually don't know if i could afford the increase for next year.

And the induction is next Monday..so I'm sitting here trying to sort out what i should do.

Fingers crossed for yourself though, i genuinely hope everything works out for ya !
