Ok so I just got a freeview box for the switch over and so I go to install channels but it's only installing the radio channels and no tv channels at all. The signals over 88 percent so I should be getting something right ? Anyone any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

It seems you have bought a Mpeg2 Freeview box designed for the UK market it wont work for Irish digital channels.
You need an Mpeg4 saorview approved box.

Depends on your location and aerial.

Risky buying a box designed only to be used in a different country.

Why would you not want to get a Saorview box when you live in Ireland? A freeview box isn't guaranteed to get you the Irish channels.

    Keith,

If you are in Lifford you will not get Uk channels until October.

Well it was my Da that bought it, thinking he was doing good by just buying a freeview box instead of buying a saorview box and not doing a bit of research before buying like.

Bring it back Keith. Ask for a "Freeview HD" box. That will the receive the Freeview, Saorview and Freeview HD stations.

    Logo looks like this

is there any of these Freeview HD boxes in tesco that can pick up both english FTA and irish saorview channels? Is the main thing to make sure there mpeg 4 and not 2? and how much would they be
    thanks

Edit: and will this box pick up both sets of channels if just connected to a sky dish?

But is this guaranteed to work.

I had a Technomate Freeview HD box and it only worked with half the Saorview channels, with the others I got sound but no picture.

FreeView uses an ordinary aerial to receive signals from Wales or NI, if you are within range. It has nothing to do with dishes.

When you say half the Saorview channels do you mean the TV ones or the radio ones? If one TV channel was showing picture and sound then all TV ones should be showing the same as they're all on the same multiplex.

TV ones. I think the likes of TV3 and 3e worked but RTE channels got sound, no picture.

    It was this box

This doesn't make sense to me. How come TV3/3e had picture and the other ones didn't? They're all broadcasting on same frequency. If digital box didn't have correct MPEG tuner then surely none would be showing the picture.

Don't know, but there was other posters who bought it at a bargain price and had to return it like me.

Shame, great looking box for £40.

It is a fault with the MHEG5. As soon as it loads on MPEG4 signals the screen goes black. It ruined the Olympics for many in UK as soon as the red button logo appeared the main picture went just leaving the red button.
