I'm going to go with The Hairy Bikers because I like the honest food they cook and how their egos seem well in check.

They seem like a couple of likeable guys too that you could imagine having a pint with.

So who's your favourite TV chef/cook and why?

On his programme one week he had gotten some squid and he decided the best thing to do was to barbecue it. So he proceeded to take the deep fat fryer outside and plonked it on a picnic table and then deep fried the squid in it. It was brilliant.

She just finished a four parter on ITV/UTV/STV afaik, called "Simply Italian". A must watch.

Antony Worrall-Thompson, as well as great advice on cooking he has some great tips on how to keep the cost of the weekly shop down.

    By robbing from Tesco

    My fave's are:
The Hairy Bikers - For their down to earth food and nice personalities.
Nigella Lawsson - Her Food... her looks, Need I say more? :D

I met Martin last week and had the pleasure of eating in his restaurant. He's an absolute gent. Very down to earth and didn't mind talking to the plebs and posing for pictures :)

Nigella- she never fails to make me laugh

Lorraine Pascale- Her food looks amazing and her approach is about easy, fresh food. She also has a very pleasant personality

Jamie Oliver- His food is surely the best by far, I bet it tastes as incredible as it looks. He is my favourite.

Nigella has good down to earth food but the whole playfulness with the camera thing is almost embarrassing for her at this stage imho. The out-of-focus-into-focus, close ups, and 'moving camera' shooting style is really pretentious too.

She's a fat auld mare who loves herself even more than her food.
Her recipes aren't particularly inventive or original and the whole programme seems to be about "sexualizing" it. It's very cringeworthy and embarrassing.
I'm not sure who hates her more - me or my wife.

Jamie Oliver's 30min recipe shows are fantastic, despite his "laddish" way of presenting.
Nevin Maguire, the Daniel O'Donnell of cooking. Easy to follow his stuff though and the food is very nice.
Rick Stein and James Martin get honourable mentions.

Yeah, I like that show but I'm not convinced the meals can be made in 30 mins. Jamie's a bit corny too imo. BOSH bosh bosh, WHACK it in a pan. WAZZ it up.

I was watching one of Jamie's older shows where he went over to the US to meet 'a black guy' cook and they stopped in the street and did a little dance move to a hip hop backing tune. Nearly puked in my mouth with the embarrassment. :o

Great description. Nevin is devoid of charisma.

Forgot about Rick Stein he seems to be really enthusiastic about food - very upbeat.

    Why's it embarrassing?

Admittedly, she has been "playful" for over ten years now - but it doesn't say anywhere that you can't be like that at 52... ;)

I would agree with the Hairy Bikers, they seem very genuine, the kind of people who aren't different off screen.

Gino Di Campo's mangled English usually gets a few laughs.

I think I remember there being some chinese or Asian looking fella on RTÉ in the mornings during the late 90s or Early 00s when I was home, sick from school

Cant believe nobody has mentioned Heston Blumenthal - surely the best tv chef ever!

Where does one watch Michaela Chlappa?

    Was it Ken Hom?

You don't hear too much of him these days, which is a shame.

Probably Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook). Funny guy. :o

Rick Stein is very relaxing to watch and his shows are always interesting, focusing on fresh, local food and ingredients. His French Odyssey show is still one of my favourites even if it is an old one.

Also a fan of Nigella, James Martin and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstil.

nothing to do with her age tbh. I have a very finely tuned bullshitometer and she sets it off for some reason.

Ina Garten from the food network. She gives sweets as a present on Christmas
Everything she makes I wanna eat.
Also, Nigella. She could make a roast dinner sexy.

Yeah I like Ina and her food. You can just tell she's all about the food. No bullshit.

    I'm starvin'

Love the Barefoot Contessa series but OMG the amount of butter and salt  Food always looks delicious, Jeffrey is a happy man I'd say.

Also have grown to like Jamie Oliver and can see past the cheeky chappie act and see the good food he's putting together

Not strictly a chef but that show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives - am always starving after watching it :)

There's food on there that I wouldn't dream of eating, making or ordering in real life but it does tempt me, the only time I get to watch it is late night so always try to eat before it comes on or else I'll be going to bed hungry.

If I want to shout at the TV I watch Ina. She wrecks my head but some of her recipes are very good. I like Lorraine Pascale too.

THIS reminds me of Jamie Oliver

I can't watch ANY chef that cooks outside. It bloody boils my blood! It's sooo annoying.

My sister watches it with a bowl of porridge to stop herself going on a feeding frenzy. :pac:

    Whyzat?

It's just very annoying. They go on about the ingredients being fresher cause they've just fished it from the sea or picked it off a bush or something. Jamie Oliver's the worst offender. Cooking in his shed FFS. And those Hairy Bikers (awful names for chefs) cooking beside rivers. There's just no need for it. I'm easily annoyed :p

A lot of love for Nigella it seems. Any time I see her though, I can't help but be reminded of Russell Brand...

The odd time I catch Saturday Kitchen, the Keith Floyd segments are usually entertaining. Antonio Carluccio is also interesting.

Jamie Oliver and Lorraine Pascale for food that I could contemplate actually cooking.

For pure entertainment, I like Rick Stein.

Not strictly a TV chef, I don't think, but I like the guy who shows us how supermarket produce is made - instant mash, concentrated orange juice, last week's was sugar. Can't remember the name of the program or the name of the chef though.

For most annoying, I'd have to say Rachel Allen and this dude (it's the fakey smile that does it):
