Apologies if I've posted this incorrectly but just wondering where would someone find tickets to the Galway v Kilkenny final. I'm from Galway myself, never actually been to Croker and no idea of where to even go lookin. Kinda have a feelin there is absolutely no chance of gettin tickets  cheers in advance for advice.

Good luck with your quest, but I hope you don't get a ticket ahead of someone who has followed Galway throughout the year without missing any games.

There's a load of good info in that thread but as Lapin said I hope you don't get one at the expense of somebody who has gone to matches this year.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but what price are the tickets? I heard €80! That's astronomical.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

    80 for stand/usually 30/40 for Hill

    why's that?

same threads come up here every year. how do you get tickets and they are too expensive.

there are multiple threads on how to go about trying to source tickets if you dont have contacts.

The AI final tickets, the pinnacle game of the season, are €80 each, for the stand. Hill tickets are much cheaper. the tickets during the year are also reduced in cost and are good value. But yet everyone forgets that and goes on about how expensive the final is. Its not, in any relative terms you want to compare them with. I'd love to see someone show me where a final, that can garner the interest of a sell out 83,000 and a competition that has over a million attend its championship games annually, is actually cheaper than the AI final.

They could probably sell tickets for €100 and still sell it out but it wouldn't be worth the negative press.

Tickets should be €140 and you get €30 euro back at the gate with a semi-final ticket and another €30 if you have a quarter final ticket.

Tickets to watch the sh*te Ireland will play under Trap are far worse value than the 80 you pay for an All Ireland ticket and I'm a diehard football fan! Nothing wrong with 80 euro at all.

Typical backward GAA attitude! What the hell is the point in postin somethin so pointlessly negative, what am I suppose to say to that like... ffs. So what if I haven't been to Croker, I could be a hardcore GAA fan who follows every game for all ye know or just someone who wants to go to Croker ta watch a final, either way its first come first serve. Cheers to the actual constructive advice.

How is it backward to voice an opinion that loyal fans should get tickets before other fans?

Sounds very forward thinking to me!

I wished you good luck. What is backward or negative about that.

I stand by my initial point though. I haven't missed a Galway Hurling game yet this year and I'd be annoyed to see a ticket go to someone who simply wants to go to Croke Park to watch a final if I couldn't get one to see the team I've been following.

I had a ticket for last years football final, but sold it (at face value) to a friend from Dublin who couldn't get one. I reckon he deserved it more than I did as he is a regular at Dublin games.

Agree 100%. The people who support their country all year should have first dibs on tickets for big games. That is only fair.

OP, I used to work in the hospitality industry. It was pretty much impossible for me to get Sundays off to go to Dubs games at Croker, but I still considered myself to be just as loyal a Dubs supporter & just as worthy of AI final tickets as someone who was on Hill 16 for every single Dublin game.

However, if I was to come onto a site such as this looking for help to score precious All Ireland final tickets, I would qualify my remarks as to why I thought that I was deserving of tickets to big games, even though my match attendance record would stay other wise.

You didn't do that. You said you had been to no Galway games this year without saying why that was. That to an outside observer, indicates zero interest in the sport, other than wanting to be a part of the hoopla involving The Big Events played in September. Your Johnny Come Lately attitude towards tickets has ticked people off and made them unwilling to help you. Understandably so imo ! I wish you no ill will personally, but unless you have very real and plausible reasons for attending no Galway games this year, I really do wish that the Galway fans that HAVE spent a lot more time in the trenches this year score tickets before you do !

Let's try to put it differently. Do you go fairly regularly to any sports team, be it Connacht Rugby, Galway United (or SD Galway now or whoever) or Manchester United? Now suppose you were at a lot of games for this team and they have their biggest game in years coming up...Miraculous Heineken Cup Quarter Final for Connacht/FAI Cup Final/European Cup Final.

I have never been to any games before this whereas you have been a loyal supporter and frequent attendee. Tickets are hard to get, I manage to get a ticket for this game, possibly the biggest for years to come wheras you, the more committed supporter do not. Would that be fair?

ProudDUB, why don't read through my posts and point out to me where I said I haven't been to any Galway games this year...cheers.

I said I've never been to Croker...big difference. The main reason I've never been to Croker is work commitments have always gotten in the way. This season I've missed only one Galway match, actually been to 4 of them along with some athenry and portumna games. I came on here looking for advice on where to get tickets... simple as. I did not realise I had to justify my position for this information prior to request. I've played junior hurlin for years with a well known Galway club and my uncle who coaches with the club can't get his hands on tickets for me, so I said I look elsewhere. If people have a gripe with that maybe make a new thread related to that topic and leave the pointless unhelpful posts for somewhere else.

Hmmm, you say you've "never been to Croker" before telling us in the next sentence that "this season you've missed only one Galway match".

Strange one, considering Galway have played in Croke Park twice so far in this years championship.

Its impossible to be right with both statements.

OP you are the lowest of the low in the GAA world.

I have stubs for all games this year and i'll be very lucky to get a ticket as my chances look very slim because im not a member of any club. Id say ive spent over 500 euro alone supporting Galway this season. I was up in Croke Park BOTH times Galway played there this year. You thought they only played there once.

Have you no shame coming on to a public forum trying to snake a ticket and in doing so deprive a real fan somewhere a ticket.

    Event junkie.

So you missed one match but never attended a match in Croker? Seems like we have an honest diehard fan here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭O.P.H

Are ye actually havin a laugh! I said I only missed one game, as in, I didn't see it on tv!. I followed that up by sayin I was actually at 4 Galway games and a few club games this season. I made that fairly clear.

    For the luv of God!

So playin hurling with club and school for over 10 years, going to a few Galway and club games this season and watching all the others apart from one - this dosen't qualify me as a fan that deserves advice on where ta get tickets? Ye're some friendly bunch ye are!

My aul lad played hurlin most of his life and played to county level until under 21. He watches all hurlin religiously and goes to alot of county games, but he actually hasent been to Croker before either. Do I think this makes him any less of a fan...NO! What pisses me off is ye're bull**** attitude would actually qualify him as an unworthy fan too and ye would probly tell him to feck off as well if he asked advice here. Cheers lads!

Come on OP you should know boards by now :D

First post in GAA forum after being a member 6 years wouldnt help ya ;)

Dont panic about tickets, it'll be Friday night before the final when they'll start becoming plentiful. If you're happy to stand on the hill/nally you'll be sure of picking up one.

Lads I think ye are being a bit hard on the OP I was in Croker for the leinster final I was at the semi final I was up there last weekend to see our minors i am just bout to head out the door to drive from kildare to Thurles to the U21 games i was one of the maybe 50 people who went to thurles in 2010 to see our U21 getting kicked around the place by tipp and the more Galway people that get Tickets for the final weather they are die hard or not is really no concern of mine i will get tickets for the final no matter what if the liver has to be sold so be it
I don't feel that i am owed something because i have been to pretty much all the Galway games this year in fact i feel very privaledged and that i share a far greater emotional attachment to this team if we fail to win the final i will not be on here slating the team but will be gutted for them and what they have put in,The one thing that really gets on my tittts is the guys who go the final and haven't followed the team all year but feel that the lads have let them down personally if they loose

God this is wild to read. People attacking the op about going to matches. It's always the same. I suppose ye have a point about who's more "deserving". Bit sure it's only a game at the end of the day. Like a pack of wolves over a feed of tickets!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 15,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

lads cut out attacking the OP, lot of posts that are really on the border, the OP is as entitled to ask about how to get tickets as anyone else, keep things civil please!

    mod hat off

this thing about loyal fans should be getting a ticket before other fans is ridiculous, it used to be an issue a while back, but the GAA have put a system in place to reward loyal fans by the season ticket system. If you go to most of the games, you qualify for an AI final ticket, great system. I used have sympathy for fans who used to go to all games and not get tickets for the big games, but i've little or none for loyal fans who didn't avail of the season ticket, if they call themselves loyal!

Since there is another thread about tickets, I'm locking this one

Calm down a bit now O.P.H.

Nobody is telling you to feck off.

First off - Watching a game on television is hardly the same thing as going to a game to show support for a team. I believe fans with ticket stubbs from previous games should get first refusal.

Secondly, you say you have been to a few club games. Fair play to you for that, but the club championship is a different tournament. If you really want tickets for a hurling final in Croke Park, get yourself to Dublin on the 17th of March next year for the club finals where you'll have no problem getting one on the day.

Nobody denies your love of the game and its great to see, but surely you can acknowledge that people like Clemon above who have spent over €500 this year already actually going to games rather than watching them on TV, are more deserving of a seat in Croker on September the 9th.

Finally - You say your Dad has played to county level until U21 but has never been to Croke park either. I find this bizzare.
You ask if this makes him any less of a fan. I would have to say, yes, it does. Any Galway fan worth their salt who played inter county hurling should know Croke Park inside out.

Its not us that have the bullshít attitude here OP. Its just a few genuine supporters who actually travel around the country supporting Galway expressing concern that someone who watches (and misses) games on TV might get tickets instead. Surely you can see the unfair nature of such a situation.
