Anyone got an opinion on this?
Ive been offered an 04, offered it at 5900, with 1 year warranty (main dealer - simi), full nct and timing belt all done.
Its got 85k miles and is the 1.6 Ambition model, with climate control, cruise control etc, in metallic grey.
What do you think of the price there?

Nearly €6k for a 2004 basic Audi A3? Has to be having a laugh at that price..

Its not the basic model. Its fairly high spec in fairness.

Basic engine is what I should have said.

What would you value it at?

1 year warranty, full nct, all necessary work done.
    Thanks.

I'd say €5,500 would be very reasonable for what's being offered. It's a bit more expensive than private but the 1 year warranty may come in handy.

Did you link the right ad?
That one is a 1.5 and the NCT runs out this month.

    As for high spec:
16" light alloy wheels, ABS, Body coloured bumpers, Climate Control, Cruise control, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Immobiliser, Radio/CD, Remote central locking
    Where?

Its a 1.6, lord knows why they appear as 1.5 on carzone but many seem to.
The dealer himself told me he will put it thru the nct.
Climate control and cruise control are as high spec as it gets with these.

Apart from full electric leather, MFSW, Sat nav, sunroof, electronic suspension, quattro. That's had about 2 option boxes ticked.
The chances of an Irish A3 having anything near that in terms of spec are pretty slim.

I can't get over the way these A3s are continuing to hold their value. If anything they have gone up in value in the last 6 months. I got one for my sister back at the start of the year, an 05 Sportback with 100k kms and a pretty decent spec for €6k which is looking like better and better value all the time with the prices I see them going for now...

If you have your mind made up that you want an A3 then that is the price you will have to give for one.

That one looks like a nice car. The posters above who are saying it isn't high spec have obviously never seen a base model A3 :pac:

    Cheers.
Yeah, its kind of the car I have my heart set on now.
Would ideally like a newer one, but my budget doesnt appear to stretch that far, and with it being my first car and something I wont use all that often, I couldnt really justify it anyway.
The dealer is a main dealer, and has offered a 1 year warranty, putting it thru nct for me prior to purchase, and getting the timing belt etc done.
All of that helps take the worry away with it being my first car, so Im very tempted.

If the question was purely on the car itself, then it does seem a decent example, but being price specific it does seem quite high. That being said though, the prices are high overall for the model.

One thing to note however is that if you are giving serious weight to the one year warranty, but don't plan to put up much mileage initially, then you might not be getting the best value out of it. Say for example you end up pottering about for the initial period, but then start to put bigger mileage up down the road, the likelihood of something actually happening when still in warranty is greatly reduced.

Thats a good point, cheers, will bear it in mind.

Find out what exactly is/isn't covered under the warranty as not too many dealers are offering comprehensive warranties on 8 year old cars.
