Was at the local mart last night. Up from last week. Heifers making on average E400 with their weight. Bulls making up to E600 with their weight. As usual quality pays.:D

Alot of small stock out - under 250kg's (Born in March etc so a lack of feeding is showing)

Anyway my point, circa 10 bull weanlings came in a mixture of red and black lims, weighting on average 400+ kg's. Great stock - well fed.

The red lims were making avg E1,100 whereas the blacks were making avg E850. From my limited eye there was no difference in quality just colour.

I have noticed this before and I am wondering why:confused: (have a few angus x cows which we breed to a lim - so we have black limx weanlings. Good quality but my price expectations are reducing:()

Apart from the colour ,are the blacks more fatty than the reds ,or do the reds flesh up quicker or what is the reason they are more desirable for export ?

I think buyers are a little more wary of blacks because of the possibility of dairy influence.

A good taller black would tend to carry more weight (often a good bit) than a red, but would be a bit slower to finish. Both should grade equally well.
