I'm doing my first 5k fun run and I'm really nervous. I am very slow, and in fact I think the most I have ran (jogged) is about 4k. I am nervous the whole thing will be proper runners and I'll be last by about 15 minutes! Are there usually people like me in fun runs?

Don't be in the least bit nervous. If you can do 4km training, you will do 5km with others around. You won't be next or near last, people will stroll it chatting, carrying babies and pushing prams etc. Of course some will run it hard, but usually they are in a minority in fun runs. Relax and enjoy. You will get a time, and the real fun is then trying to lower it in future runs.

I remember doing my first 5K like it was last year. Come to think of it ,it was ;)
I ran with my two sisters in law. I didn't want to come last of the 3 of us because I would be embarrassed. Well I was 2nd of the 3 of us and I ran 1min/mile faster than I ever had before on race day going out hard and fading near the end. Just saying you will be fine.

I ran my first 5k race on Wednesday and I have to admit I was nervous before it but one you get on the start line you'll be fine. The nerves will disappear when you focus on the run.

I actually ran the course twice in the week before the race. One of the days was really warm and I had to stop twice to walk for 30secs each time. The other time I felt great and felt I could have kept on going on the finish line. As it happened I actually ran the exact same time for each run.(24:46) .

Then on race day I didn't feel great, my legs were very heavy from a hard hurling training the night before but I actually ran 2 minutes quicker than the previous 2 runs(22:50)

The whole momentum of racing and the buzz of running with so many people will keep you going and the people on the side of the road clapping you on really spurs you on too.

Just go and enjoy it and you'll feel great crossing the finish line. I can't wait for the next race. :)

    All the best
