Laptop for College

Hi sorry for making another one if these threads. Basicly i'm looking for one that will get me through a three year radiography course (and beyond). I'm completely confused what to look for in a laptop.

Even what type of specs to look out for would be great.

We've a family laptop lenova already, would that be a good make to go with?


I have 1tb harddrive so memory doesn't have to be amazing but i'd like it to be decent enough.

Budget: any thing under 500, as close to 400 as possible though.

Intended use: as I said above it will be mostly be for college work and browsing. Maybe a webcam for skype but thats not hugely important.

Mobility: just to and from college, not a huge issue.

Warranty: Not important

What Operating System do you use? Windows

hey... im kind of in the same boat... only a lot less knowledgeable about what i need! im pretty much just looking for a laptop that'll do me for college.. im not doing a fancy IT course or anything so i dont need anything too special... but i literally know nothing about laptops! ... so i'd like some guidance as to what makes are good? what processors are best? what kinda memory and 'GHZ' speed is needed and just basically what do i need to ensure my laptop has before I go and buy it... my budget is much the same... not over €500.... any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

Well, if you want buy from an "Irish" webshop, the ASUS I have linked in my previous post here is a pretty good deal. ASUS have a good reputation re reliability and build quality. You'll get 6 GB RAM and one of the faster Core i3 processors, not too shabby for 460 yoyos.

Hi, what effect would the lower hdd have on this computer.
I love the look of that acer, is there any well known Irish website that sells it?

Seriously, if you don't have to carry around a massive movie collection, 320 GB is plenty disk space.

I'd say, Dabs is fairly well known (they're a UK outfit but they have a webshop registered in Ireland). The same model at laptopsdirect.ie (another UK outfit) for €442.

Same model no. indeed at Argos, but slower processor (2330M) and bigger hard disk.
