    Hi All

Just Puzzled about this. Had a missed call today from an 056 number. Later my dad called my to say someone was calling him looking to contact me about a tax refund that I had applied for. I never made a claim for a tax refund or gave my details to anyone. Very few people would have my dad's number either. I rang the number this evening and it was the offices of www.taxback.com The person that I spoke to was not very helpful. What's the story with this company ? Is this the way they tout for business ? Its very unprofessional if it is in my opinion.

I haven't heard of the company but in things like this if I haven't contacted them and they call me I ignore them. They usually aren't ringing me unless there is a gain for them.

If you have tax to laim back contact the Revenue.

    Thanks Miaireland.

There are plenty of references on different threads about the company.

The problem I have is my dad now thinks that I am receiving a tax refund and is asking me loads of questions about it because of some unprofessional jerk from this company. The big puzzle is how they knew to ring my dad when I did'nt answer them myself. He rearly uses his phone, He is elderly.

Big company - they specialise in tax back for tourists. Did you buy anything outside the eu recently? Or possibly they have details mixed up.

    No. Definately nothing from abroad.

I could understand if they had my details mixed up but can't understand how they also called my dad. He only uses his phone as security at night beside his bed. Its not a number that many people would have. The phone is registered with his phone company but not in the directory. Its not a number that would be giving out willly nilly.

This is not correct; they specialise in obtaining tax refunds for individuals and companies, and take a slice of the refund as a fee: http://www.taxback.com/AboutUs.asp

As an initial contact point, you just have to fill in the form here, so I'd suggestion someone may have played a prank on you, and included your Dads number as well perhaps? Might be worth contacting them again, and asking them to remove the details from their system.

Yeah, you were right, I contacted them and they had my e mail address and our phone numbers on file so someone must have contacted them as me. I got them to cancel it .

    Thanks for the heads up.

Would probably be no harm to check with the Revenue Commissioners to make sure that taxback are not listed as your tax agent - any refund due could make it's way to taxbacks bank account if they are listed as your agent - if you haven't made any claims for refund from Revenue it's no harm to check that Revenue have all up to date contact details for you and that no suspicious activity has taken place. Better safe than sorry!
