Sure if it knew it was a trap in the first place it wouldn't have gone in now would it :).

Place it somewhere else and go again ..

If you can fix where he got out use again otherwise flatten it. I was using some of the straight through's and had a couple of mink get out of them(badly made). He'll be back leave him something he cant refuse. What sort of cage were you using?

Why were ye not dispatching as ye trapped them?

This reminds me of a story I heard about an experiment catching crows. Some researchers realised that the crows they had caught, banded and released were harder to catch again because they remembered the faces of the researchers and gave the a wide berth.

They tested their hypothesis by wearing masks.

On a tangent I know, but the topic just reminded me how good at remembering these things some animals are.

Rats are a pain for it.

It was part of my thesis but also in 1985 there was a nationwide case study done of the distribution of mink.

Many thanks for the replies ,the mink as not entered the trap since:mad:.Also is it easy to get a air rifle to kill them?I was told I was to incompetent to get a real rifle so might try for a air rifle.

Crows are intelligent animals. I have always believe that they can recognize/remember faces.

Have a look at this article: Rook gets the worm by using pebbles.

I hope you are not serious about this.

If you are not competent enough for a "real" rifle, than stay away from the air rifles as well. I bet my Diana RWS air rifle could out shoot some "real" rifles.

I would also argue that some air rifles are more deadly than high powered ones due to the false sense of security people have around them and/or a lack of respect for them.

Air rifles are just as deadly as any other.

Sorry if that sounds antagonistic, but you have to respect all arms.

Air rifles are classed the same as cartridge firing rifles in Ireland. So if "incompetent" for one it pretty stands for all firearms. From a legal point of view.

Who told you that you were incompetent. Was it a passing criticism, a professional verdict or did it come from a member of An Gardai? There is a difference hence the reason i ask.

It can't be, a student of NUI Galway is doing a survey of the distribution of Grey squirrel this year and is releasing them again after tagging them.

If you have any sort of a record from doing those stupid things you'll find it hard to get a licence for anything. Probably best you avoid anything that fires a projectile.

I alway's thought that releasing a non native species into the country was illegal, but maybe i'm wrong! Or maybe you can get special permission when doing survey's!!
