He's right in my opinion. Of course, he's a keeper so most will take his opinion with a pinch of salt. He's looking out for the keepers union. :P

I think Raphael Honigstein said on Football Weekly yesterday that the Bundesliga/German Fa were pushing for the rules to be changed.

Are people saying only keepers should escape the red card as well as outfield players if they foul a player in the box?

Personally I think it's not the worst rule, referee's have already eased up on every keeper foul being a red card, if the player is going away from goal there's been a lot more yellow cards then they're used to be and that's to be welcomed.

Something that was touched upon in the club v country thread... When people claim that Ireland is the only country where lots of people support foreign clubs. Just speaking from personal experience, every Korean I know supports an English or Spanish club. It's not unique to Ireland and I would imagine its the case in many countries with weaker leagues.

Strangely most Koreans follow their own baseball league instead of the US leagues, not sure why.

    .
Average attendance for K-league in 2012 was 7045. Even the lowest individual club average was 2354.

I'd love to see LOI clubs with attendances like that. Last year neither Bray, Drogheda, or UCD broke a 1,000 average.

I think that LOI suffers from people supporting foreign clubs instead of domestic clubs, rather than as well as domestic clubs, to a greater extent than most other countries.

And what % of the Korean population is that 7045 and 2354 ?

So ... back to grinding on ones gears ...

MOTD last night, Phil Jagielka and Giroud ... both of these clowns, take their man out of it completely while tracking back - stonewall free kicks and it's just moronic for a player to stand there debating with the Ref why its a free and protesting their innocence, neither was a yellow card offence and they should have been getting back to defend. Just give away the bloody foul and get on with it.

This is largely the issue in a nutshell.

According to Wiki, Korea has a population in excess of 50 million. Whereas Ireland is about 5 million. That's quite a difference in potential audience.

According to the media, the Irish are the Best Fans In The World.

Do LOI fans never get tired of having the same arguments over and over again?

I know like most I have pain in my hole reading there self righteous crap media says were the best fans in the world yet we wont support our own local clubs blah blah blah.

To give a penalty and also send the keeper off is excessive.
I would try a system of awarding a penalty and a 10 minute sin-binning like in rugby. You bring on a replacement goalkeeper for 10 minutes. It does not count as a substitution either.

I get more tired of people on Boards generalizing LOI fans as mad fanatics that wants every Football fan supporting a LOI team.

Actually last season was the worst attendance wise in Korea for some reason. Its actually not that low there usually attendances are double that for some reason. I dont know why because like all of us I imagine none of us are experts on Korean football but all attendances seemed to be down 50% or even more.

Looks like you might get your wish:
    http://www.football365.com/news/21554/9180831/Platini-Wants-End-To-Stupid-Triple-Punishment
"I am against it, and I want it to be changed," said Platini, who has previously suggested alternative measures to deal with such situations.

In December last year, the Frenchman said: "I would change the system of cautions. I would do it like in rugby, where the perpetrator would be punished by being off the pitch for 10 or 15 minutes of the game. That means the team they are facing would benefit in the same match."

When Irish United fans call Liverpool fans bindippers, or call their Irish Liverpool supporting mate 'scouse scum' or something similar , viceversa too obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,384 ✭✭✭Duffy the Vampire Slayer

Most people in Korea only support a foreign club, its a minuscule number who follow the K League. Yes attendance is higher but Korea has ten times Ireland's population. The stadiums here are also much bigger.

I'm not having a go at the LOI by the way. I plan to go to more LOI games when I'm back in Ireland and I do think more people should do so. I'm just pointing out that this problem isn't unique to Ireland like some people say it is.

Ok, whenever black players are asked who their hero is, or who they base their game on, they often say another black player "because he was a great black player" etc.

Imagine me saying I admire Messi because he is a great white player

Grinds my gears, so it does

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,384 ✭✭✭Duffy the Vampire Slayer

It's different when people are part of a historically disadvantaged group however, its understandable that they are going to look for role models within that group.

If you watch the top leagues or Champions League or internationals, they don't appear to be disadvantaged

He clearly said historically disadvantaged, which they are. I think it's easy to imagine that they would choose someone that faced the same challenges as them as their role model.

And its not like racism in football has gone away either.

I've never heard a black player use that phrase in my life:confused:

    Any examples of it?

I know what you are saying but the K-league is not very old and really football has not got a huge tradition in Korea but still I would count the attendances as quite impressive for a young football nation. Looking at the highest attendance figures some hit 50,000 - thats not bad going. On the other hand as you point out the lowest games were very low.

Even J League and Japan I would consider as still only developing.

I just find it sad that as a very old football nation at this stage that the vast majority of people who like football may never have been to a football game. Thats just plain weird. WE are a bit like Austrian football with really big crowds in the past that have fallen off, a huge neighbor and a common language. Although in fairness the Austrians do manage to attract more people through their gates. Maybe its the Schnitzel -probably not.

What's wrong with letting small countries in?

    Gibraltar isn't a country.
It is described as a British Overseas Territory
    Area 6 sq km

Also these games against the minnows are a waste of time - especially when the minnows are not real countries.

The Peoples Republic of Cork will expect an invitation now. Bigger population and area.

UEFA rules are rules, which allow for places like Gibraltar to be accepted. I don't think calling it a waste of time is fair. Do you think our games against Spain, Italy and Croatia were a waste of time? I think it's just the nature of sporting competition.
