Does anybody know of any shops(preferably Cork)that sell handles for double edge razor blades, you know the more 'traditional' blade like this

Want to hang up the mach3 for a while and give them a try:D
Seem's that supermarkets sell the blades but not the handles??

Better off checking out shaving.ie - massive selection, great prices and quality service. There is 10% off for boards users too, just type boards into the coupon box on purchase. I use the Muhle R89 myself with feather blades, they are the sharpest blades on the market, made in Japan I believe.

If you have a Boots nearby have a look in there. They should have one or two.

They might have their own branded one or they might have a Wilkinson Sword one.

This is the Wilkinson Sword one you should find in larger Boots stores

Make sure to use a proper lather with a safety/DE razor as canned gel or foam will not offer enough protection. Pick up a brush and some proper shaving cream or a soap stick. Boots stock their own brand as well. See if you can get a brush and a Palmolive soap stick.

Will do,a mate of mine uses the brush/soap rather than gel or foam and swears by it.
When using a DE is it best to save every day or leave it grow for a few days?,I normally only shave about two or three times a week

With a DE it wont really matter. It can't really get clogged up so it'll handle either just as well.

How often is totally up to you. Just so you know a DE shave won't last as long as a mach3 shave. As the stuble is cut evenly at the surface it will grow out faster than your mach3. On the plus side, since safety razors lob off the hair at skin surface, intead of pulling the folicle up then cutting, ingrown hairs are less likely leaving skin less irritated.

You're the first person I've heard say a Mach 3 shave lasts longer or is closer.
A proper three pass DE shave is far superior for me and I find I get another 4-6 hours
before the 5 o'clock shadow appears compared to a cart.

Having converted to a DE razor about a month ago, I now really enjoy my new shaving process and am getting a far better shave.

But I honest do feel that my stubble is now growing back way more vigorously.

Now.. don't ask for scientific proof because I honestly couldn't supply it... or maybe since changing hardware and process I'm just way more consciencous of my stubble growth?

BTW: Tried Merkur, Derby, Astra and Feather blades. Was leaning towards the Astras... but tried the Tesco branded Israeli one's last week and was really impressed with them... cheap as chips too.

Many electric and mach3 say they pull the hair, cut it below the skin level, and the hair follicle goes just below the surface of the skin (which leads to ingrown hairs).

With DE the stuble is all cut at the skin level uniformly across the face while the effectiveness of the above method varies. I think there is an illussion the next day that DE is closer because all the stuble is a uniform length.

I got my first DE razor today, I got the boots branded one but I'm just wondering is there any benefit of buying the likes of a muhle or merkur?

    Defiantly.
Different razors give a different shave, some are more aggressive than others, some a heavier and some are adjustable. Some have different combs or a slant bar.

What you have there is a light mild razor.

Hang on a sec... a "handle" for a razor blade? Pretty sure that's called a razor. :pac:
