possible boost leak

Guys how would you go about checking for a boost leak? I think I may have one on my tdci mondeo as it puts out a large puff of black smoke under hard acceleration, mostly noticable going from 1st to 2nd gear when you pull out of a junction and need to build up speed quickly :D. Is there any easy way to test for a leak?

Seen guides on youtube for making things to test for leaks but most seemed to be used on petrol cars. Is it the same for a diesel?

    Same principle Sean.

The Mondeos love to split the boost hose that comes up from the intercooler to the intake manifold near the right hand headlight. So have a good look at that before you go making up any pieces of apparatus :pac:

We have a handy machine for leak detecting should the DIY method not work out for you.

Cheers George. Ill get a look at that and If I cant see anything I might get you to check it out.

Did you ever hear of the lower gearbox mount giving trouble on them?

Yes the bush goes in them, usually only at high mileage.

Is 190k miles high lol! The engine seems to jump a bit when you dab the trottle.. Can the bushings be replaced or is it a new mount only?
