I have never hit the pings. But went out yesterday after a lay off of about 3.5 weeks and didnt hit any woods. Just irons from the tee and fairway. And it reminded me why I bought the AP2's in the first place.

Get the ball right with the Titleists and it felt great watching the ball taking off. I had a few mi****s which reminded me to focus on each shot. One tee shot I felt myself coming across the ball and as you would expect, a lovely unintentional fade. Thankfully the hole was shaped that way so it looked like a beautiful shot!!!

Sorry...this post is of no use to you at all. Just me waffling about the AP2's!!

Ap2's all the way from me. I'm playing ap1's but if I was more consistent I'd def be playing ap2's.

If all golf was played at the driving range it'd be ap2's for me :-)

give the mizunos a shot while you're at it. the mp53's could be a good fit.

let us know how you get on.

If I'm right in thinking that the G10s are similar in head size to the G2s I used to own then I would suggest that it might be a large jump going from a very large headed GI iron to a small players iron - might be worth looking at something inbetween first of all like the MP53s mentioned or AP1s?

    Just a thought :)

Thanks, yes I hear what you're saying.

I'm off h'cap of 5 now, I was off 12 when I got the G10s, my ball striking is better now and I think it's the right time to go for the feelier iron.

I totally acknowledge that it's a gamble to move away from the more forgiving clubs

Before you commit try the i20 irons. You'll keep the forgiveness but they are much more compact than the G10's especially through the short irons and they look much better than previous G models with a more satin finish.

I would certainly favour the looks of the AP2, the MP59 is a similar club also certainly worth a swing, can't say the particular Ping you are looking at would seduce me.

Looks like it's gonna be the AP2s

Now gotta try and find the cash !

You can get the 710 AP2's still, a couple of hundred euros cheaper than the 712's. Still expensive mind you at 650 odd euros. But better than the 850 or so the 712's are selling for.

I got mine in McGuirks and he threw in a 3 iron for me at the same price which I was delighted with!!

I have the AP2's and to be honest, they are unreal! Had the Ping s59's for 3 years and decided to try a few new irons out. Tried a heap of them from the Razor to the R9 irons to the s57's but the Ap2's just sealed it for me to be honest :)

If you do favour the AP2s, I would go and get fit for them in the Titleist Fitting Centre first. When you have the exact right set up for you and you are hitting them, you can then judge whether they are really the irons for you. I think it is €70 for the fitting. It's expensive just to "try" out the irons but if it's going to be a long term investment, it would be worth it imo.

AP2 712 owner here, ive tried a lot of diff sets out and i cant see myself straying from these for a long time. Absolutely love them! If you're confident enough in your ball striking then they will be fine but if you have a tendency to miss or dig a good bit then the AP1 prob would be a better call
