    My Brothers
Set over Halloween weekend of 1987, My Brothers is the story of three young brothers' epic quest to replace their dying father's watch. Noel, 17, serious, weighed down by responsibility; Paudie: 11, cocky, not so bright and dreams of playing in goals for Liverpool and Scwally: 7, naive and obsessed with Star Wars (despite never actually having seen the films).

This seems to only have a limited release, the Screen, Dundrum or the Lighthouse. I went to see it last weekend and I really recommend it. It really captures the feeling of Ireland in that era (I remember those 3D flicks on tv over the Halloween weekend), and the sibling relationships are spot on.

A really touching movie, had me crying and laughing and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I thought it was really, really bland. It was harmless, but too characterless and lacking in ambition. Directed by the writer of many Shane Meadows' films, but lacks the compelling hook or unique slant of his films.

Terry McMahon's cameo was certainly interesting though.

That was horrible and creepy. and you could feel it coming a mile off.

I know the characters were a little easy but I think it worked with the feel for the movie. It was slow paced and very little happened but it worked well with the emotion from the eldest son, and the sentiments in his writing. The scenes with the dad, were heartbreaking. I was in tears (though that may have something to do with recently loosing a parent :() it was all very real.
Not too schmaltzy or lingering on the motive for the boys. I enjoyed it, and am enjoying the spate of irish flicks on the big screen.

I just couldn't warm to it at all - sure, it's 'decent' and there's some nice moments, but it never got under my skin, and the script just felt lazy and inconsequential. Too many pointless, awkward scenes like the one with the bus full of camogie players. I don't think there was anything in it I hadn't seen done before by vastly superior films.

I was mostly just pissed off at the anachronisms. I normally don't get annoyed by details like that, but Crazy Taxi would NOT have been in Irish arcades in 1987 [/pedant]

I haven't watched this yet but I got it on DVD the other day and I was left a bit confused by the sleeve of it. They seem to have gone very far to let everyone know it's an Irish film. First of all the title of the film at the top is green white and orange, fine, I'll take that. Then the youngest kid has had an Irish flag photo shopped into his hand. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm assuming it's photo shopped because the middle brother seems to be wearing an Ireland football jersey which I'm sure he's not wearing in any of the clips or the trailer I saw. PLUS!!! It's one from a few years ago despite the film being set in the 80's!!!

Obviously none of this will affect the quality of the film itself, it just seems like a really weird and unnecessary thing to do.
