The only rugby player ever to play above international standard, our very own Ronan O'Gara, will tonight present one lucky lady with the Rose of Tralee crown.

    Sweet Jesus.

Don't Newbridge Silverware sponsor him or something? Anyway ROG is fast becoming irrelevant.

A quick warning before this thread goes any further. No uncivil comments, personal abuse or otherwise. Humor is fine, but use your common sense and if you think you shouldn't post a comment you probably shouldn't.

Anything out of line will result infractions - you've had your warning.

Don't see the problem. He's within his own rights to do whatever he wants off the pitch

I think Denis Hickie's ad for Wavin Pipes was the most bizarre 'earner' and way above international standard as far as I can remember he played outhalf, scrummed and scored a try - all in about a 10 sec ad!

What it had to do with Wavin Pipes no one will ever know!

The lucky lady will be given the opportunity of a photo op with the man himself and a warm congratulations at the after party.

Thought I was on the rugby forum, must have wandered into the social section by accident....

    Oh wait!

I'd imagine this is down to his sponsorship deal with Newbridge Silverware and very little else. He probably won't even get to speak.

Plus, you'd be surprised how popular Ronan O'Gara is with middle-aged housewives, a key audience for the Rose. I think it was during the last Six Nations, John Murray did a text poll during his radio show (mid-morning when everyone else is at work) asking whether ROG or Sexton should start, ROG got 80% of the vote!

    sweet jesus is right!

Some I may feel I'm defending a Munster player but what the heck.

I really dont see a problem. It's well known he's sponsored/paid to advertise their products by Newbridge Jewelery and why not use an International Sports Star to promote the festival.

When I saw the thread title, I half expected an article with ROG bitching about how he isn't a RoT judge! :pac:

Hope he doesnt go saying the English Roses arent half as good as the Irish Roses.

Or that they wanted him to be the Miami rose or something.

The way the article is phrased it looks like they actually asked him to be a judge.

Nothing to see here really. It's not like any of us watch the Rose....is it?

ROG gets a bit of stick, some of it deserved, some of it not.

You have to give it to him though he is very professional in dealing with his sponsors.

Rumour has it that ROG is just using the Rose of Tralee as a warm up for Miss World Pagent.

Is there a Leinster Rose they can give it to?..

Jaysus the Kilkenny rose was fairly cringey last night, Oscar Wilde soliloquy anyone?
