I've read a few sites that have mentioned this now. In essence, it's The Expendables with an all female cast. They've got a wish list with the likes of Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Mila Jovovich, Helen Mirren and Jamie Lee Curtis and pretty much any actress that's knocking about at the moment.

It's almost like they don't understand the appeal of having 80's action stars all starring together in a joke of a movie. Although I can't think of many female action stars other than Cynthia Rothrock (and I'm surprised that I even remember her). It's nothing to do with The Expendables at the moment, but I wonder if it might be jumped on by the likes of Stallone to become a possibly lucrative official spin-off.

It's obviously a shameless cash-in, but does anyone think that it actually be a worthy spin-off idea from The Expendables?

Here's a link to some blurb about it on Movies.ie

It doesn't seem to be a total lost cause. It's being backed by Adi Shankar, who produced The Grey, Killing Them Softly, Dredd and the Punisher short Dirty Laundry. And it's being scripted by someone with possibly the greatest action hero name ever: Dutch Southern. So that's got to stand to it somewhat.

Cameron Diaz is an action star now? (Knight & Day doesn't count)

Not against it in theory but hasn't the group of kick-ass women that team up to fight already been flogged to death by the awful Charlies Angels movies (complete with their Feminazi soundtrack courtesy of noted misandrist Beyoncé)?

Someoneshould set up a vehicle for all the C list 80s and early 90s action stars, call it the Dependables and cast Hulk Hogan, Brian Bosworth, Michael Dudikoff,(Boz and Dudikoff should actually be considered for Expendables 3) Lorenzo Lamas and have Richard Grieco as the villain. throw in the remaining Corey, Clu Gulugar, Sho Kugushi's son and a budget of a couple of million and you're onto a winner.

seriously, diaz is no action star, she can drive a motorbike all she wants,

i heard they wanted linda hamilton and sigourney weaver, along with someone like maggie q, and gina carano (though after haywire im unsure of her acting ability, but she can kick ass), i could deal with jolie and jovovich also being in there and helen mirren,

thats a cast id go see,

Angelina Jolie is too frail for action movies. In Salt, when she was doing action scenes or even running it looked like all her bones were about to break.

Gina Carano definitely looked the part in the action scenes in that recent movie.

What originality has to do with anything? I expressed my opinion, I don't care whether someone else has/hasn't expressed the same opinion before.

Grow up and cop on to yourself. Smart comments and rolleyes do nothing but drag a forum down.

Michelle Rodriguez would be another option.

not someone else, everyone else, someone says angelina jolie and bang that comment emerges, its like being on a roundabout when she has a film coming out,

i like keeping the forum at a certain intellectual level and keep the 4 syllable words away:D

Surprised no mention of Zoe Saldana, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel yet and arent they the new crop of female action stars

like the expendables its more gotta do with the old stars with a light sprinkle of newer ones, having jolies name on the list would pull in more $$ than the 3 of them combined id say, its proven the woman draws a crowd, even when the film is utter tripe

saying that any of them could be in it no doubt, or they could hold them back for the inevitable sequels:)

if they don't cast Pam Grier then I will consider this project a failure from the off.

Chiaki Kuriyama and Summer Glau kick more ass than all the others in this thread combined. Get the real action stars on board - not just a collection of names that are easy to put on a poster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

I think the list is too 'sexy'. The moment so much as one of them uses their good looks to achieve a goal in the film will be the moment it fails.

    Linda Hamilton?

you dont get it the expendables arent the new crop they're the old crop so up to date actresses shouldnt count.

your one that played China o Brien(Cynthia Rothrock) should be in it. she's actually 5 time world karate champion too. Sigourney Weaver for her part in aliens. Uma Therman from Kill Bill. Linda Hamilton from Terminator.

There's 4 proper female action stars that arent the new crop who are bad ass!!!

This probably the single worst idea for a movie ever.
Salt kicked ass, and there are plenty of ladies who rock as action stars.
It's just the testosterone fuelled bullet fest that the Expendables franchise is, where it makes no sense in anyway unless you allow for blokes making stupid decisions because, well, their blokes, with women, it'll make even less sense!
Plus, the 80's weren't replete with female action stars, outside of the VHS/Betamax muck with the likes of Rothrock in it
The rest of the female actresses wouldn't touch this with a bargepole, given they have proper careers to fall back on, Weaver? Seriously? She was not an action star, she was in the Alien franchise and that was it, the rest of her CV consists of comedies, dramas etc.

The Expendables is a mix and old and new action stars i.e. Statham, Crews and Hemsworth being the newbies

When exactly was Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Mila Jovovich action stars in the 80s or 90s  (They are mentioned in the opening post)

Sly could add Betty White and his ex Brigitte Nielsen :p

Anyway Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh

Dunno why I have developed an interest in this thread, as I am pretty certain I'll have no interest in going to see it.

Anyway, Geena Davis, Sigourny Weever, Jamie Lee Curtis.

    I was thinking about this.

So the Expendables is pretty much a movie made for guys, its a testosterone fueled over the top action movie. Sure there's plenty of women who will enjoy it too but there's no denying that its made with the male mid-teens to thirties market in mind.

So if they go ahead and make this other version with an all female cast what really changes? It's still a big dumb action movie, it'll still probably appeal more to men than women. Surely if they want to make a female-centric expendables type movie it shouldn't be a big bumb action movie, it should be a big dumb soppy rom com starring the likes of Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Sandra Bullock, Andie McDowell, Melanie Griffiths, Goldie Hawn, Jennifer Lopez etc. Boy would it suck.

    You're welcome hollywood!

Just stick a few of them in Expendables 3 (Buffy anyone?).
Ask Katie Taylor what she's up to (apparently Stallone is a fan).

    Source

Katie Sackhoff has discussed her role in the upcoming
action thriller which has been billed as "an all-female
    Expendables".
The former Battlestar Galactica actress has signed on to
star alongside Gina Carano (Haywire) in the film, but suggested in a recent
interview with Collider that nothing is yet set in stone.
    "I am attached
to it, but things always happen. If a script got delivered and was absolutely
horrible, then you figure things out," Sackhoff said. "But, I can't imagine,
with everyone that [producer] Adi Shankar is bringing around the project, that
    it's going to be bad.

"I really put a lot of faith in him and his eye
for detail. I'm a big fan of Gina, and there's a lot of strong
    women."

She went on to explain that Shankar's vision for the film is to
have a cast of women who are not typically petite, but plausibly strong action
    stars.

"When... he pitched the women that he wanted in the movie, these
are not your 5 foot 2, skinny girls. These are the girls that can actually kick
some ass, which made me excited.

"And they are different types of girls.
I haven't seen the Expendables movies, but not every one of us has the same
fighting style and we're all different body types. It's believable that we
could all kick some ass. I'm really looking forward to it."

    An early
report suggested that the producers' wish list included Sigourney Weaver, Linda
Hamilton, Cynthia Rothrock, Carrie Ann Moss, Michelle Rodriguez and Summer
    Glau.

Sounds good (assuming it's Milla Jovovich having sex with Jamie Lee Curtis (from 20 years ago))
