    Hi all,

This may seem like a stupid question but would anybody know if french supermarkets have a decent amount of choice for people with food intolerances? ie gluten free bread and pasta, yeast free options etc?

We just booked a week away in the south of France and one of the travelling party has a very restrictive diet - and has resigned herself to bringing a suitcase full of provisions for the week we're away - but I'm sure it can be got over there? Not necessarily in the little local market, we'll have a car so we can travel to the big hypermarkets if necessary.

Most big(and some smallish) supermarkets in France sell gluten free foods, as in Ireland though it does depend where you are living. I have a nephew who has coeliac disease, he lives in Paris but the family do travel all over France(mostly to Brittany tbh)and really have no big problem finding foods for him. Oh, and most if not all pharmacies have gluten free foodstuffs.

Not long back from the south of France, other half is coeliac, the quite large LeClerc supermarket nearest us had pretty much nothing but on making enquiries with one of the staff who spoke english were directed to a health food store where gluten free breads & pasta could be got, La Vie Claire was the name
Pharmacies as well will guide you, all speak english also

We do tend to take a few days worth of breads & crackers with us though at the very least

If by any chance you are staying around Antibes / Juan les pins / Golfe Juan, La Vie Claire, approx address is 133 D6007 Vallauris, Provence-Alpes, Cote d'Azur

Sorry, more accurate info, there is a large Carrefour which may be worth checking out

    Carrefour
1 Chemin de Saint-Claude, 06600 Antibes Juan les Pins, France

There is also a place, can't think of the name but it's food section is a bit like Marks & Spencer, it's in Place de Gaulle next to the Tourism office

    and then La Vie Clairetransparent.png
214 Avenue de la Liberté, 06220 Golfe Juan (Le), France

The supermarket in CAP3000 in St Laurent Du Vars, adjacent to Nice-Cote d'Azur Airport is excellent too, with a huge selection of foods for various dietary needs. I think it might be a monoprix, but not like the usual ones!

There's a nice beach just behind it too if you like combining plane spotting with sun bathing.
