Just thought i'd set this up for those living on Campus to tell where they are staying and what apartment etc. in the case that we boardsies are going to be in the same building and this may make the whole transition to a new house etc. easier!

I got my offer there this evening, I got offered earlier because I got the Entrance Scholarship,

but anywho, i'm staying in River: Carrick Hall Apartment No. 7

Anyone else get an offer this evening?

    Honnnnnnnnnn CARRICK btw! :pac:

I got the scholarship too but I only got an email from them telling me about the scholarship this morning with a form attached which I filled in and sent to the reply address straight away. I applied for accommodation back in January. However I haven't gotten an email back all day telling me where I'd be staying? Did everyone who got the scholarship get a reply or do they just send them out at different times?

Geo, check out this link and see if your CAO number is here first of all, if it is, you've got campus:

Yeah my CAO number is on it but they never told me where I'd be staying. They're probably sending each one individually so I'll just wait for now! :)

Hope you get River Geo! Or Carrick especially <3.. You should add yourself to the Boardsies FB page of the people from out O.T. thread, we'd all get to know eachother before we start in NUIM! We'll be in the same Business/Economics lectures! :D.. PM me if you want an add! :D

I got offered a room in the Village appartments. I'm happy I got a place but reading some of the older posts on here about them I don't know what to think. :(

Can you tell me what is the Entrance Scholarship? Who gets it and how do they do it? I have a daughter going to Maynooth this year (so it is probably too late for her), but then my second child is going into 6th year now and it will be good to have all the info we can get to help her out.
Thank you for your assistance, and keep up the good work.

Hi, the entrance scholarship is given to incoming students in NUIM who receive 500 points or more in their L.C. You get guaranteed campus accommodation (full price still) and 1000e in 2x500e installments in November/February!

Nothing wrong with Village at all. It's a great place. Though if you want to sleep you may want to invest in ear plugs

Does anyone know if River apartments are single sex or mixed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,545 ✭✭✭Geo10

I got an email today saying I got a place in the Village apartments, despite me having gotten the entrance scholarship which guaranteed me accommodation and the River Apartments were my first choice!
At first I was freaking out but then figured that they probably just sent me that without knowing about the scholarship as when I applied back in January I put "CAO" as my "home university" but now there is the option to enter "CAO 500+". Anyway, then I got an email from the scholarship lady saying that she couldn't open my scholarship form on her computer (she had Word and it opened as Pages on my Macbook) so I resent it to her in the main body of the email rather than as an attachment. I also told her my dilemma (and if she had any advice as to whether I should just reapply with the "CAO 500+") and am awaiting a reply.
I think I should just reapply and ONLY put River down as an option. Since I got the scholarship they have to give it to me? They reserve 10% of accommodation for people applying this week so maybe that's my best option!

Shnap! My first year away from Mullin! :-(

Darren, don't worry about Village, I've always lived there and I love it! Never had problems, not even with sleep despite others having complaints on here (that could be a personal thing though!)

Nope, Village is mixed too. Last year I was living with 3 girls and 1 guy plus me

That only rarely happens! Most apts are single sex!

Does anyone know usually what's the ratio of lads:girls in River apartments! I'd like some diversity, but I don't think I could hack living with 4 girls either! :p

It's random as some people who get offered campus will inevitably not choose to take it so there's as much chance of getting four girls as there is any other permutation

That usually only happens when it comes to the final numbers and they have to put those ppl somewhere...generally its not mixed

Nope, they are only committed to offering on campus accommodation (of which the Village apts are a part), so it's still the luck of the draw as much as any other applicant as to where you get it. Many moons ago when I was in first year I was in Rye Hall as an entrance scholarship recipient.

Lads can you clarify something for me.
This is a little off topic but here goes, does the entrance scholarship cover your fees as well as €1000 split in 2 or is it just €1000 and you pay your fees also.

    Thanks peeps

Entrance scholarship is just the €1000; you have to pay the registration fee yourself (unless you get a grant).

    APARTMENT 1-3 Ground floor*

    APARTMENT 7-9 2nd floor*
APARTMENT 10 all by its self on the 3rd floor*

    APARTMENT 5 - 8 1st Floor (5 and 6 on the left and 7 and 8 on the right)

Only Avoca, Boyne, Carrick and Dodder (and possibly Erne but I can't remember for certain) have 10 apartments in River. The other buildings just have 6. So in the others its 1 & 2 on ground floor, 3 & 4 on first floor, and 5 & 6 on second. The apartments in those buildings are usually bigger, and have twin rooms (but you'll all know by now if you have a twin room - if your room number is like Quilty 6 AB etc then you're in a twin room).
