    hi all,

I have been asked to see if its possible for an elderly friend to connect his mac to his TV. I asked for the name and model of both but all i could get was a pic of the connections for the mac and the same for the TV.

I see there is s video and composite video and stereo sound on the TV, no sign of HDMI, and there are one or two connections on the mac that I dont recognise.

Can anyone help, is there a lead to connect the two , or some sort of wireless option?

    thank you all

The Mac has a Mini Display Port (at the far left on the photo). If there's no HDMI in on the TV he'll need a composite video converter, which is significantly dearer.

Ok so it looks like that second port from the left on the TV is a HDMI port. So you'll two things, a HDMI cable and a mini DVI to HDMI adaptor.
I'll make it easy for you, buy these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired--up-v1-3A-Plated-Connectors-Cable/dp/B0017RW94A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345546963&sr=8-1

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-Cable-Adapter-Cablesson%C2%AE-SHIPPING/dp/B002KH2L9Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345546998&sr=1-2

And then Plug the short white cable into the leftmost port on the mac(in the picture), then one end of the HDMI cable into the short white cable, and the other into the TV :) Win!

If you have any questions, pm me

Not 100% but the photo of the TV looks like it's of the front behind a pull down flap ? Perhaps you could get a photo of the rear of the set ? Is it even an LCD/plasma model ?

thanks guys, jos you could be correct. I hope that is a HDMI it would be great if it was but i was not sure.

    ZENER,
I doubt if he'll be able to get me anther photo. I have not seen anything more than you guys have.

It was really the mac ports i needed, I did not recognise the last one, the symbol looked like it was a universal one for a screen but its good to know what it is. I don't know why manufactures use these mini ports on large pieces of electronics, yes its good an an option but surely a full sized HDMI would be the first choice.

I'm going to chance the mini hdmi to hdmi

    thanks again

Because Apple make more money due to people needing to buy adaptors ;) . The Apple world is all about proprietry connectors and cables, while Mini display port isn't exactly exclusive to Apple, other companies that use it usually offer VGA/DVI/HDMI etc as well

I've had issues with a "generic" iPod cable in the past, but I'm not sure a miny DP adaptor would matter as it's not an Apple invention
