Have a guy asking me if rte transponder can be recieved in turkey. I notice its on Astra 1n now so I assume its a much tighter beam. I know the likes of sky sports are on a wide European beam, but rte is a mystery to me. Some people say you can get it there but the footprints say no! Would love to help this guy out as he's spend a fortune on sat gear.

The furthest south east I can see is in Serbia with a 3.1M dish.

Astra 2F is due for launch in September, with an even tighter spotbeam, so it's hard to know if it worth the effort doing much between now and then.

I say the same, but people that have been on holiday to turkey are saying lots of pubs show gaa on rte out there? Internet streams perhaps?

I was talking to a guy in Scotland this evening and he was telling me he gets the GAA matches etc with Premier Sports over there. They repeat the games several times so Id imagine they're the equivalent of Setanta

I recall watching that channel fta for a period after it first launched. At that time I was picking it up crystal clear from a 80cm dish from southern Spain. I recall all the GAA was RTE being relayed by Premier Sports UK.

This was one thing I thought, that it was premier sports or internet streams. So can we safely say that rte cannot be received in turkey?

Yes unless you use a dish the size of a house :D

Now I visited Cyprus (not quite Turkey, but most of the way there) a few years back and plenty of pubs did have RTÉ via Sky Digital there. I can only assume they were using dishes the size of houses.

Having said it is against the terms and conditions of a Sky subscription to use said subscription outside of the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, or Channel Islands, so I'm closing this thread.
