Car radio skipping (Not CD)

Not sure if this is better in motoring or electronics but here goes!
I picked up a car radio a couple of weeks ago and everything works fine (aux, usb, sd, cd) apart from the radio.

The radio skips like a CD would for no apparent reason. It doesn't seem to be anything to do with signal because it will do it even parked up.

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

    try a different radio.

Is the radio second hand? maybe thats why they sold it.

Turn off auto frequency and see if that helps. Used to happen the odd times in my dad's car when the radio would hop to what it thought was a better quality singal, even thought the first one was fine.

If not, I have a Sony headunit in perfect working order I can sell you through Adverts.ie for €20. No USB or Aux though. :(

    Yeah it's second hand.
My old radio worked fine so I know it must be a problem with the radio!
It hasn't bothered me much because i prefer the usb than radio but I went to the drive in cinema the other night and ended up just switching my old radio back in because of it :/

I too would recommend turning off the AF function to see if it resolved the skipping. Same thing used to happen my radio as it used to constantly chop and change frequencies as you drove along and often did it if stopped too. I turned off AF and it was all good.Worth a try before writing off the radio altogether.

I'll have a go at that in a minute!
I should have said in the OP though it's like the way a cd would skip, not your usual changing frequencies and going fuzz and what not confused.gif

i had an issue where the radio used to shut down and start up again for no apparant reason. It turned out the alternator was sending to much power and the radio was shutting down. This usally happened when I was doing around 50 +

Not the same but something to look out for
