Moving your post to North County Dublin forum, OP.

This is a more appropriate forum for your request.

Do you mean straw! I've never seem hay bales at a party - usually straw bales.

I'm sure that the OP is not too fussy whether the bales are made of hay or straw. They will probably be used for decoration rather than as animal feed.

Yes, but straw is relatively inexpensive as it's a by-product of cereal harvesting. It's mainly used for animal bedding and for mushroom production.

Hay, on the other hand is livestock fodder and is grown and saved for that purpose. Hence it's a lot more expensive. ;)

If it's not too far for you, 'East Coast Town and Country' in Duleek (10 mins from Ashbourne) does bales of straw for about €8-10 a pop as far as i remember. They are wrapped in plastic, though, not sure if they are twined underneath it so might not be suitable. Your best bet would be to find an equestrian supplies place...

... and a helluva a lot lighter than hay

TBH, at this time of the year there should be plenty of straw about, but getting it in the "old fashioned" bale shape will be the issue

Farming Forum might be of a help too, I know a couple of the posters are based out near the Naul/Meath area, they might be able to put you in touch with someone that still uses small bales.

Fingal farm supplies will probably have some. It's between Oldtown and Ballyboughal. If you google them a phone number should come up.
