Possibly, I read everything related to him in his voice though so that's the connection I made :pac:

Not enough laughing about intergalactic bids for Gary Hooper

Didn't realise it was even sold on the continent. Can't remember ever seeing it other than in Irish bars.

I'd say the French would be disgusted by it!

You wouldn't say that if you'd tasted the most beautiful tasting Breton cider;)

Couldn't even think of drinking mass market muck!

That's why I said the French would be disgusted by it (Magners/Bulmers). It's more apple flavoured alcohol than cider!

    Thanks - sorry I misunderstood:)

I was once in The Church On The Hill(folk who know Glasgow will know it),. A woman asks her man for a glass of cider as he makes his way across the pub she calls out 'don't get me that fenian stuff '! lol

I'd wager your hydration is a bigger factor in your hangovers than whether your drink a mass produced product or something from a micro brewery!

Well done to Peter Lawwell and Celtic on the new sponsorship deal with Magners. To get an increase on what the current Tennants deal is bringing in in this economic climate is pretty impressive. Speaks well to the work done on and off the field in recent years.

Check the Celtic website, there is a statement about rescheduled fixtures

Have you a link to that statement, I don't see it on the main website?

Celtic website and BBC fixtures are listing both Dundee Utd games for Jan and Feb, and tickets are available for both on the Celtic website. I presume they're both valid dates and it's just the way the fixtures fell. Unusual I suppose to be playing the same team in the same competition at home in consecutive months pre-split.

    +1.

I've said it here before and I'll say it again, we are where we are largely due to how Lawwell and the board conduct the club's business. It's easy to come out with the "get the cheque book out Peter" stuff every transfer window, but to be in all three domestic competitions, the last 16 of the CL and in a healthy financial position while playing in the SPL with a strong squad is very impressive

It's working out well for Lawwell at the minute, the results on the field of course make the conservative financial approach all the more acceptable. The current sensible and prudent financial strategy goes back to Fergus McCann, there were times that he got pelters from some of the support for being seen as too tight.

It can be frustrating at times as a fan watching while EPL clubs of no pedigree wave money around and try to buy our best players, but the financial strategy overall has definitely worked. What Celtic need now is to ensure they play CL football year in year out, and then they can fund the team with revenue from the CL.

    SPL fixture amendments
CELTIC´S home SPL match against Dundee United, which has been postponed twice, will now take place on Tuesday, January 22 (KO: 7.45pm)

And Neil Lennon´s side will play St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday, February 19 (KO: 7.45pm). This match has been re-arranged because the original date clashes with Celtic´s League Cup semi-final at Hampden against St Mirren.

Scottish Sun are reporting with quotes attributed to Juwon Oshaniwa that he's about to sign for Celtic. Seems himself and Gershon have the same agent. Rogic is apparently impressing Mjallby and he's hinting at getting a deal done this window.

Dont know much about either but our scouts and transfer policy are doing wonders at the moment so hopefully we sign them

Talksport reporting Norwich close to signing Hooper

    0833:
    TRANSFER LATEST

Norwich are close to completing a deal for Celtic striker Gary Hooper, report talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old has scored 64 goals for Celtic since moving from Scunthorpe in 2010.

But the Scottish champions look set to lose Hooper, who has 18 months left on his contract but has said he has no plans to sign a new deal.

I'd be surprised if he ends up at Norwich even more so if it is for the £3 million fee being mentioned but if it does happen hopefully we have someone in mind to replace him. There is no doubting his goal scoring record but he is not IMO irreplaceable by any means.

£3m? :D Who mentioned that figure?

This is the sort of stuff that pisses me off, a no mark club sniffing around our best players, and it's the sort of sh1t that will continue to happen until there are new structures governing European football with the expansion of the CL etc..

He would be daft to go to Norwich anyway, and would be showing a serious lack of ambition if he went there. If he really wants to play in the EPL bigger, clubs will surely show an interest. Hope we can keep him 'til the end of the season at least, but he's not irreplaceable and I'm sure the club have people in mind to replace him if needed.

3M would be very cheap and IMHO bad business. Jelavic signed for Everton for 4m when Rangers were deep in debt. Two different players but 6-7m would be about right for Hooper given that he is also a bit younger and English (always add on a few more million for this!! :P )

Anyway, looks like it could be just speculation thankfully:

£3m would be nothing short of insane, and no way will Celtic let him go for that. Triple it and add £1m for a realistic figure imo!! He'll be worth a bit less in the summer but I'd rather hold onto him until then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

How do you go from a happy Hooper in Spain with a contract offer on the table and no bids or enquiries 2 days ago to indicating that he's not doing a deal and in advanced contract talks without being pulled from the Celtic training camp!

If he declared he wasnt going to sign a contract, Lawwell would have started an auction, not just deal with one club

He might even be worth more or will at least maintain his value depending on how he does v Juve and who knows even subsequent CL games;).

Celtic should keep him 'til the summer at the very least, unless someone offers silly money, which rules out Norwich I'd say they don't have form for spending daft money on players. How much did Darren Bent cost, 19 million was it? It would take something daft like that to part with him during the January window I'd say.

I'm sure I saw it this morning on one of the sh!tty rumour sites, can't find it now though so maybe I imagined it

Either way I don't think a move to Norwich would suit Hooper or Celtic right now, I think he'll stay until the summer

Sky Sports understands Celtic are closing in on the signing of United States international Juan Agudelo.

So we could be pulling talented players from the MLS & A-League this window. Lawwell will tell you that commercial prospects have nothing to do with it! All we need now is an Asian player to be dragged into the mix!

If it was Ki or Nakamura. I doubt there would be any objections :D

That is thanks to Lennon and John Park, not Lawwell. Despite the SFA's best efforts we could have buried Rangers years ago had we invested. Although I suppose the board could point out that they died anyway without us having to overspend, which would be reasonable.

Also, Hooper for £3m :pac: even £6m would be a joke. Ki went for around that and he was a shítebag.

Hooper is our biggest asset in a long while due to being excellent, young, and English. He should command an eight-figure fee easily.
