When Mourinho got sacked I put £40 on Hiddink to be next Chelsea manager. They appointed him "until the end of the season" meaning I didn't win my bet according to Betfair :mad:

Bit of a tangent but I assume caretaker managers don't count as official manager.

Well not with the bookies anyway, you wouldn't get paid on Benitez at Chelsea either I'd imagine if the stipulation was "next permanent manager".

All that talk about Brady and Jordan etc. jogged old memories, those were the days I used to travel to see Celtic fairly regular. When I see Brady on RTE commenting on Celtic in the CL now, he usually has a good word for them. The club he managed was a shambles compared to today. The last days of the crumbling Kelly family control, with talk of moving to Cambuslang, and all sorts of rumours of takeover bids including Jim Kerr from Simple Minds among others.

The other lot were laughing at us back then and were able to concentrate on Euro exploits with our challenge on the domestic front in tatters. It took Celtic 5 years to win anything after Fergus McCann came in and steadied the ship. The exact opposite today, though I'm not sure Charles Green measures up to Fergus McCann, not yet anyway.

For Celtic we now have the room to concentrate and develop our Euro exploits, things going fairly well on that front. Rangers didn't miss our challenge then, and we don't miss them now.

Happy days in Paradise, bring on Juve.

Legend is a term bandied about too much these days. That guy, however, is a legend, the best ever Celtic player I'll have the privilege to watch in my lifetime I reckon.

Still can't believe that such a talent spent 7 years with Celtic.

Even I would class larsson as one of the greatest players I've had the privilege to watch.
I hated him at the time, obviously, but there's no getting away from just how good he was.

Totaly agree Paulo. Larson was and is a true Celtic legend. It was a distinct priviledge to have been able to have lived through his time playing at Celtic. So many great memories.

Celtic sign cb/lb Rami Gershon on loan with an option for a permanent deal, needed cover with Ambrose away at the African Nations Cup.

We have Wilson, Mulgrew, Lustig, Wanyama and Rogne who can play there, I think it could be the left-back slot he is covering. Although with Ambrose away he may get a chance to settle in at CB which is good.

    Juve linked with Drogba

We've been linked with Boyata. Considering we have Gershon, pending a work permit, I dunno why we are linked with another defender. A loan deal with a agreement to buy would be the only interest I'd have in him. Maybe Rogne is about to be flogged!

Also linked with Maor Melikson, another Israeli, who we apparently had a £1.25m bid turned down in the summer for...

Helder Barbosa has been linked with the club also with his agent quoted as saying that Celtic are interested.

    Hopefully Juve dont get Drogba!

Celtic have denied the Barbosa link, unfortunately.

I think for sure the pressure in a way is being put on Rogne to sign a new deal. His contract I think is up after this season so it would seem Celtic are saying right now agree to a new deal and sign it asap or we will go get another defender and your out of here in the summer. Personally I like Rogne. Plus he is young still only 22 so I hope he does come around and agree a new deal to stay at Celtic.

He's good but there is no point in a centre back who's made of glass.

His deal is up at the end of this season and he's already rejected a contract. Between talking about his contract when he knows he shouldnt have and being injury prone, I dont celtic are too pushed about making a deal happen and I can understand the reservations.

    Alex O'Henley ‏@OHenleyAlex

Norwich reportedly set to offer #Celtic striker Gary Hooper £30k a week. They'll need to back that up with an impressive transfer fee first.

Looks like the tactic is to unsettle the player first and see can they drive down the transfer fee that way.

If he is interested in playing in the EPL, Hooper can do far better than Norwich. Don't see him leaving this January window anyway, especially not to an EPL rag team like Norwich.

I was thinking, 30k a week isn't even that much. Bet there's a hape of dross on more than that.

We can afford to offer him 30k ourselves I reckon.

Australian midfielder Tom Rogic will link up with Celtic for their mid-season training camp in Spain.

A jetlagged player isnt going to be up to much in a week!

Lawwell would put tampax on the front of the Celtic jersey if there was enough money involved, be ready for disappointment tbh!

    http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=3538
CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce a new three-year shirt sponsorship with Magners, the premium international cider brand. The deal will see Magners become the shirt sponsor of Celtic from the start of the 2013/14 season.

Magners has a strong track record of engaging fans via successful and innovative sponsorships across rugby, football, comedy and music and is currently working with Celtic to develop a range of initiatives to support its partnership with the club.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell welcomed Magners’ commitment. He said: "On behalf of everyone at Celtic, I am delighted to welcome Magners as the club’s new shirt sponsor.

"This partnership is magnificent news, not only for Celtic but also for Scottish football. We are proud to be successfully leading Scottish football at home and in Europe.

"The desire of a brand with Magners’ stature to support the club is a measure of how much positivity there is around Celtic in our 125th year. I look forward to a long and successful partnership with Magners and I’m sure every Celtic fan will welcome their support.”

Tom McCusker, Managing Director of Magners, looks forward to a successful partnership. He said: “Magners is a premium brand with huge ambition both at home and abroad, available in over 40 markets worldwide including key cider growth territories like the US, Australia, Canada and Asia.

"There is, therefore, a great fit with Celtic Football Club who also enjoy great success and popularity domestically and internationally. Everyone at Magners is looking forward to working with Celtic and its fans over the coming years in what promises to be an exciting time for the club and our brand.”

Dont know how it will look on a top but if were gettimg that aweful shirt i hope its a big sponsor haha..Is there still joint sponsorship after this year??

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭BhoscaCapall

Why does it matter even if they are the same company? The important thing is we will not have the same logo on the front, further distancing ourselves from them. It's like shaking a bit of muck off yer shoe :D

Probably the best move the board have made in several years.
